Navigant’s global Energy practice works with clients involved in a wide range of energy-related activities, including electricity and natural gas production, transmission, and distribution; energy efficiency and demand side management; and sustainability.  As a Managing Consultant you will be responsible for leading project teams, supporting the business development process, and executing specific components of projects.  

As an Managing Consultant in Navigant’s global Energy practice you will be responsible for the following:

  • Leading project teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Participating in proposal development and the business development process;
  • Conducting detailed fact finding and primary and secondary research, including web-based research, interviews, and field measurements;
  • Assessing technologies and analyzing technology and market trends;
  • Performing technical, statistical, financial, and economic analysis, data collection, and modeling;
  • Interviewing business managers, technology experts and public policy officials to support client projects;
  • Developing technology and operational strategies for utilities, government, and energy companies; 
  • Communicating solutions and new strategies to clients through reports and presentations.


  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, business, or another related field;
  • Five to seven years of relevant professional experience;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Superior interpersonal skills;
  • High degree of self-confidence and determination;
  • Project management experience, including budget management, timeline management, and cross-functional team/people management;
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and slide presentation software; 
  • Ability to travel and work overtime hours as needed.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior management consulting or operational consulting experience; 
  • Prior electricity or natural gas utility industry experience;
  • Master’s degree in STEM, business, or another related field;
  • Utility and power generation strategy, operations and/or financial experience;
  • Knowledge of energy and commodities markets;
  • Knowledge of utility regulation;
  • Energy conservation or renewables expertise.

  • Frequently communicates with clients and coworkers and must be able to share information effectively
  • Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Work as a member of a team as well as be a self-motivator with ability to work independently 
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects in sometimes high-pressure situations simultaneously
  • Able to travel via airplane with minimal assistance to client sites across the US and potentially internationally
  • Usually remains stationary for the majority of the day
  • Regularly uses close visual acuity and operates computer equipment to prepare and analyze and transmit data
