The Manager, Transportation is responsible for leading assigned transportation / logistics related initiatives and support the execution of global transportation for FMIC. You will facilitate and assist with the sourcing and procurement events for all modes of transportation. You will analyze and recommend transportation network modeling continuous improvement activities and network optimization strategies. Other things you will be responsible for include the management of others, coaching the team, providing guidance and establishing their career development path through training, seminars and transportation / logistics industry related events.
About the Job:
Developing FMIC Core Carrier programs with best in class service providers for international ocean, air, NVOCC / Forwarders, domestic small parcel, LTL, TL, intermodal and air freight.
Managing international and domestic transportation sourcing events delivering cost / service benefits; to include fiduciary targets.
Key role in contract negotiations including price, service, fuel surcharge / bunker fees, cargo liability and accessorial charges.
The development of KPI’s for each mode of transportation; to include managing under-performing carriers and their corrective action programs to return to standard.
Transportation network assessment to identify areas of opportunity to optimize through continuous improvement / Lean Logistics methodology.
Building and nurturing positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, including supporting initiatives and strategies for Finished Goods and SPA (Strings, Parts & Accessories).
Evaluation of and participating in the review of transportation / logistics technology and systems to improve shipment visibility, load optimization and freight settlement.
Identifying and assessing risks across the transportation network and to develop contingency plans for all associated risks.
Manage all transportation freight settlement processes, to include the audit and post-audit procedures with our 3rd Party provider.
What you need:
10 – 15 years of experience as a Supervisor or Manager role with both international ocean / air and domestic transportation.
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain / Logistics, related field or the equivalent level of experience.
Solid background in the selection and management of international ocean, air and all domestic transportation modes of small parcel, LTL, TL, Intermodal and air.
Possess the skill in mutually beneficial negotiation tactics for a win-win solution.
Experience in developing high service and cost benefit transportation networks within North America; to include pool distribution, zone skipping and LTL consolidation modeling.
Solid international management of import and export shipments; to include establishing LCL consolidation programs overseas.
Demonstrate ability to optimize transportation networks through continuous improvement and Lean principles.
Managerial acumen in developing, creating and reporting on budget planning and explanation on budget variance monthly / quarterly.
First-hand knowledge of TMS (Transportation Management System) functionality and application. Bonus if you were part of the selection and implementation process.
Experience in developing KPI metrics and reports; inclusive of managing under-performing carriers / forwarders.
Analytical, strategic, problem-solving skills, proactive, contingency planning and ability to communicate effectively across the business and more importantly; with your team.
The development of others, the building of a high performing team and acumen for consistent sharing in recognition and appreciation.
Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
DOT/ Dangerous Goods / HAZ MAT certification.
Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills; in particular, Word, Excel and Access)
Experience in navigating and using SAP applications.
