The primary responsibility of the Systems Engineering Manager is to manage a team of systems engineers that are involved in multiple New Product Development projects in the controls and digital product lines within the Edwards Commercial Fire business. The Systems Engineering Manager will build and grow a system engineering team and develop the necessary skills and competencies for system engineers that are capable of leading multidiscipline product development engineers and be responsible for overall product definition, architecture development and system integration activities, including integration of hardware, firmware and software components. In early phases of new projects, systems engineers will work with Product Management to properly scope initial design concepts with appropriate cross-functional team members. They will be responsible for coordinating technical program execution to ensure various aspects of the design are properly implemented for successful product launch.


Build and grow a team of systems engineers. Develop the required competencies and expertise required for a team of systems engineers responsible to:

  • Define product design requirements and specifications to meet customer needs
  • Develop and analyze design concepts
  • Develop overall system architectures along with those of subsystems and components
  • Lead integration of subsystems to meet product design requirements including developing system integration plans and leading system integration teams
  • Ensure designs meet product requirements (functional, cost, quality, safety and reliability)
  • Use Model Based Design and simulation tools to model and assess the system performance early in the process
  • Define design trade-offs as necessary to ensure the highest level of product performance and quality when considering product cost, manufacturability and available technologies
  • Develop required design documentation including requirements, functional block diagrams, and DFMEAs
  • Lead root cause activities as necessary utilizing the appropriate tools, such as fault-tree analysis and fishbone diagrams
  • Provide clear communications to technical team members and leaders as well as to leaders and managers with less technical background
  • Mentor team members working on a product development programs on Systems Engineering
  • Lead Technical Reviews



  • Demonstrated strong leadership and team management/mentorship capabilities in systems engineering
  • Demonstrated strong background in systems engineering and proven track record in delivering successful new products
  • Demonstrated experience in electronic and/or firmware analysis design and development
  • Demonstrated experience in controls and digital design integration
  • Significant experience in embedded system and software design
  • Product design experience from concept to production
  • Demonstrated requirements management experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading project teams to deliver programs on time and on budget
  • Must be comfortable leading team members through various product development and problem solving activities
  • Must be a creative thinker with high initiative
  • Must be able to develop appropriate levels of testing requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering
  • Demonstrated technical coaching and mentoring skills
  • Experience creating and leading systems integration plans and teams
  • At least 15years of product design experience
  • Travelrequired is 15-20 percent of the time


  • Experience of developing networked control systems for commercial or industrial applications
  • Electronic / embedded system designs based on Micro controller / Microprocessor based systems and associated subsystems such as power supply, I/O interfaces, displays, communication and communications modules
  • Firmware: designs of firmware for electronic products and systems; Experience improving existing designs and source code to help attain goal of having a modular structure
  • Commercial fire alarm control system product development experience
  • Strong engineering project management skills
  • DOORs / Rational or equivalent requirements management software experience
  • Quality Center or equivalent software test case / defect management tool expertise
  • Demonstrated history of innovative thinking
  • Working knowledge of electronics manufacturing


  • Bachelor's degree in Controls, Computer Engineering, ElectricalEngineering or related field required
  • Master's degree in related Engineering field preferred
