JOB SUMMARY

The Manager of Surgical Services builds on the essential functions of the Registered Nurse. The Manager of Surgical Services utilizes an interpersonal process that focuses on the total individual and his/her role in the family, culture, and society. The Manager of Surgical Services is supportive of health, life, and the quality of life through care, counseling, and curative measures. The Manager of Surgical Services fulfills multiple roles such as patient advocacy, management, oversight and coordination of resources. The Manager of Surgical Services is guided by the substantial specialized knowledge of nursing based on the physiological and psychosocial sciences as well as skills in management and implementation of patient care at St. James Healthcare. The Manager of Surgical Services integrates the goals and objectives of the organization into the delivery of care. Assists in the management of clinical performance, compliance, and operational functions of all patient care sections of the departments. Serves as a leader and role model for patient careassociates within the organization and outside the organization. Assists in managing all staffing concerns, collaborating effectively with labor unions, effective resource utilization; resolving performance management issues, as well as supervising all clinical activities. Identifies opportunities to reduce costs. Exhibits a high degree of tact, courtesy, and poise.

The Manager Surgical Services will assist the Department Director in the daily operational management of the nursing units. This includes responsibility for oversight of personnel issues, clinical oversight, and assistance with PI and Risk Management functions. Will round daily on all of the nursing units within Surgical Services and will work with Department Director to ensure optimum work flow/quality for patient care.

EDUCATION

Required:

BSN Degree

CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION, LICENSE

(*indicates primary source verification requirement

Required:

Current Montana RN License required upon hire

BLS required upon hire

ACLS certification required within 3 months of hire date

Preferred:

Specialty certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Previous supervisory responsibility required

Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills and problem solving skills.

Knowledge of Emergency Services Nursing required.
