The Manager, Strategic Communications, Global Youth Engagement is responsible for oversight and integration of key Unified Schools and youth engagement findings, resources and activities into an executable communications strategy and a series of program development resources, communications and marketing tools that can be utilized by a variety of constituents and each of the Special Olympics Regions for program development, marketing and fund and partner development. In particular, the position will work with Program, Region, and Global SO staff to maximize impact and reach of the Special Olympics partnership with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
In this role, the Manager will combine skills of public relations, marketing, and strategic planning to ensure that the array of evidence, data and materials and best practices from the field are collected and developed into a comprehensive set of curricula, training materials and resources for multiple key constituents via multiple delivery portals and mechanisms. The position will also manage and coordinate the Special Olympics contribution to the Spread the Word campaign, spending approximately half of his/her time developing and executing the strategy for this advocacy and engagement campaign in cooperation with a coalition of other disability organizations.
This position will work with the Global Youth Engagement team to evaluate, coordinate and prioritize recommendations for content needs, and develop appropriate training resources for a variety of initiatives. This position will collaborate with Special Olympics Regional staff who Communications/Branding as well as Regional Youth Engagement. This position also involves coordinating with the Development/Marketing and website managers to maintain a current content plan and ensure content is regularly updated.
? Provide general oversight of day to day activities in the areas of internal + external communications, resource development, and reporting and sharing the success of Programs and delivering against the strategic plan in the area of global youth engagement, especially the work of the Special Olympics / Stavros Niarchos Foundation partnership.
? Develop and execute annual Communication / Marketing / Resource-Development plan to maximally amplify impact Special Olympics Global Youth Engagement, especially the work of the Special Olympics / Stavros Niarchos Foundation partnership
? Collaborate with Regional Communications and Youth Engagement staff to identify and execute Communications / Branding opportunities and resource needs
? Support other key Youth Engagement outreach/communications campaigns with strategic planning and implementation in traditional and digital media outlets
? Coordinate the activities of Global Youth Engagement Team members, ensuring the array of evidence, data and materials collected are developed into a comprehensive and maximally effective set of curricula, training materials and resources for multiple key constituents such as Program staff, youth leaders, and educators.
? Ensure all existing resources are updated and manage the process for ensuring they are ready for positing on website, with appropriate tags, intros and linkages. Work with Communications and graphic designers as needed to ensure the highest quality product.
? Work with Technical Assistance and Grants team in culling best practices and identifying resource needs as Programs build the infrastructure, systems, processes, skills and knowledge necessary to for robust programming.
? Prioritize resource needs and work with team to create professional development training materials for internal and external constituents.
? Oversee internal communications, calendar development and media opportunities for the division.
? Provide guidance to the organization’s development and marketing and communications divisions for presentations and proposals that relate to youth and schools. Serve as key liaison to these divisions on behalf of the global youth engagement team.
? Manage day to day coordination of the strategic evolution, and implementation of communications goals to promote the STW campaign across North America and as part of a global communications and engagement strategy; participate in a multi partner STW working group.
? Manage vendor relationships for communications materials development in the area of graphic design, video production, print production, web and social media.
? As needed, supervise staff, interns and other rotational positions focusing on Communications for Global Youth Engagement

? Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or a related field
? 3+ years of professional experience working with Special Olympics or similar inclusive education and/or sports programming
? 2+ years working in fast-paced communications, marketing and brand environment; agency and advocacy campaign experience a plus.
? Strong understanding of the needs and operations of SO Programs and Regions
? Strong background in resource development, marketing, promotion, and public relations
? Exceptional communications skills, including long-form writing, social media composition, and verbal presentation
? Experience managing staff or interns
? Experience conducting RFP processes, contracting and managing vendor relationships
? Familiarity with record keeping and reporting requirements associated with foundation grants
? Experience in collaborative processes for planning and project implementation.
