The Manager, Software Development organizes and facilitates the tasks for a technical team of Java developers, supporting release planning, meetings, performance reporting, project reviews, risk management, and team retrospectives, all while ensuring there is the necessary competence and confidence to perform the work efficiently and effectively while protecting the interests, privacy and confidentiality of the company and its customers.

Job Details:

Essential Duties:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the development team within a collaborative Agile/Scrum environment
  • Influence and establish best software development practices through solid design decisions, processes and tools
  • Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development
  • Accountable for managing and monitoring all activities to achieve project milestones and deliverables across the project
  • Collaborate with other teams and departments to prioritize software development needs, including architecting, designing, developing, and testing new and existing software
  • Schedule tasks and identify key assumptions, critical paths and dependencies between people, resources and constraints in a project
  • Anticipate, assess and mitigate development issues for the project; escalate when necessary
  • Regularly update senior leadership on progress and status of assigned projects and ensure that project goals are met

Required Background / Experience:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Understanding of software architectures, software systems, and application development
  • Experience building high performance, high availability and scalable applications in Java
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred, and/or an equivalent set of team building and communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Experience with Agile practices and methodologies such as Test Driven Development and Scrum
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to think abstractly and deal with ambiguous / undefined problems
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team to create exceptional value
  • Awareness of quality factors in software projects, quality assurance and testing processes and associated schedule impacts
