Role Summary:

  • The Manager Sales Strategy & Brand Development initiates and drives projects designed to reshape the Volkswagen Sales, Marketing & After Sales business in the NAR and its markets
  • This position is the link within NAR and between NAR, HQ, markets for all relevant functions (e.g. Sales, After Sales, Legal, Finance, etc.)
  • This position works closely with & coordinates CAN, US & MEX teams and individual work packages related to strategic topics
  • The role incudes but is not limited to the functional strategy Project Management Office, Future Sales Model project and repositioning of the brand

 Role Responsibilities:

  • Overall objective and role
    • Drive the development and implantation of strategic projects in NAR, working closely with HQ and market teams (e.g., Future Sales Model, profit improvement programs, Total Distribution Cost, efficient structures and processes, remarketing/used car business, strengthening and repositioning the brand)
    • Represent NAR interests in global projects/cross-market project teams, work packages and committees
  • Project management and coordination
    • Lead the cross-functional regional Future Sales Model Project Management Office
    • Coordinate the Total Distribution Cost Project
    • Set up project steering incl. tracking, reporting and escalation processes and semi-standardized tracking tools and reporting templates to ensure transparency on progress, deadlines, critical issues, etc.
    • Conduct iterative assessment of the key focus areas with strategic relevance
    • Assess and adapt existing and develop new ideas and work out concepts
    • Report project status to project lead and Steering Committee
    • Act as key interface for projects, the region, its markets and if required HQ in the German HQ
    • Exchange project related information with other VW Group brands for efficiency, collaboration, creativity
    • Assist in the development of a communication strategy for internal, external and business partners and facilitate internal and external communications and messaging in alignment with key stakeholders
  • Support project streams 
    • Support project stream and work package leaders in defining a target picture/deliverables, approach, and status reports as well as to identify cross-work package dependencies, ensure communication and collaboration through workshops, meetings, etc.
    • Support project teams as sparring partner to evaluate ideas, test, pilot and rollout as needed
    • Analyze and assess progress of work packages and recommend correcting measures if necessary
    • Plan, conduct and moderate meetings/workshops to develop and implement the new business model
  • Committee work
    • Coordinate regional Steering Committee structure (where applicable), ensure leadership engagement, high-level platform for work package leaders to present ideas for review, feedback and approval, and ensure support on key issues
  • Stakeholder management
    • Ensure buy in from across the organization to prioritize the strategic projects across the region
    • Remove departmental and organizational barriers to information and collaborative flow
  • Leadership
    • Manage team of 3 specialists + dedicated project resources (PMO, dotted line team members, etc.)
    • Coordinate cross-functional project teams

    • Conduct special assignments based on the individual’s background, experience and skills

  • 10+ Years of Relevant Experience
  • 3-5 Years of Supervisory Experience

 Education-Required•          Bachelor’s Degree – Business Management Education-Desired•          MBA – Marketing, Business Strategy, or related discipline Skills:

  • Strong project management skills incl. outline and manage cross functional strategic project
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking – Ability to monitor, analyze and interpret metrics/data trends to form actionable recommendations and relevant business insights
  • Strategic thinking – ability to craft and define strategic brand direction, linking brand metrics with price positioning and market share objectives
  • Communication skills – Experience in communicating with executive level; Ability to develop and communicate presentations at multiple levels within the organization and with external partners
  • Integration – Ability to lead interdepartmental and inter market collaboration
  • Problem solving – Knowledge of brand strategy and information sources to create meaningful analyses of market activity changes, define appropriate KPIs, tools, actions fields and measures and implement them in a pragmatic yet target oriented way to drive the brand and the business
  • Influencing and negotiation skills
  • Computer savvy – Proficient with MS Office, incl. the creation of concise, impactful, visual presentations

 Specialized Skills-Required

  • Prior experience with transformation processes, brand & product strategies
  • Experience with project management
  • Strong management of timelines, budgets, prioritization skills and efficient multi-tasking
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in stressful situations / to work in ever-changing environment with tight deadlines
  • Experience with interdepartmental / international collaboration incl. ability to motivate cross functional teams towards one joint goal
  • Strong background in leveraging research insights to support communications development
  • Deep analytical skills with the ability to extract meaningful intelligence from diverse data points
  • Expertise in developing and articulating strategic positions and recommendations to senior management with concise, persuasive rationale
  • Strong communication skills on different levels
  • Excellent MS Office skills, proficiency in creating one uniform presentation/cohesive story
  • Strong project management skills and a team player personality – Empathetic, collaborative, driven, target-oriented, friendly but tough, pragmatic

 Specialized Skills-Desired

  • Working knowledge of Automotive industry
  • Working experience in the coordination of dealer network related projects / assignments
  • Interest and knowledge of current consumer trends, emerging technologies, consumer ownership models, ride sharing concepts, loyalty programs, the mobility of people, business development, business management, agile methodology
  • Direct experience managing and motivating employees

  Work Flexibility:

  • Ability to travel within North America and overseas for Strategy workshops.
  • Flexibility to work under time pressure, with different time zones and towards executive level steering committees
