Position Scope/Decision Making Authority:
Provides vision and strategic guidance necessary to lead the activities of the Operations Support Mobile Equipment team. Collaborates with operations leadership to support the design and establishment of best practices, equipment utilization and enhance mobile equipment performance across the enterprise.
Leverage function competencies and resources to optimize fleet management
Drive operational aspect of leadership model providing the support necessary for the operations team to lead the market’s safest and most efficient operations.
Coordinate and guide operations support decisions to optimize mobile equipment utilization
Develop and implement best practices and standards for operating and maintaining mobile equipment.
Act as a clearinghouse for mobile equipment purchases requiring CAFE approval.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Participates in the formulation of capital budgets to support short and long-term business planning initiatives relating to mobile equipment.
Leads the company-wide mobile equipment team.
In conjunction with Procurement, develops and maintains Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and dealers relationships with VMC
Works with the Operations teams and Procurement to purchase new mobile equipment which includes vendor selection and negotiation on purchase or lease. Works with vendors to establish equipment specifications;
Participate in the evaluation of mobile equipment rebuild capital projects.
Works closely with Division President, VP & GM, Vice President of Operations, Area Managers, Plant Managers and Central Service Managers on strategies and programs to reduce cost, improve productivity and efficiency;
With operations leaders, define key metrics and establish best practices for improved business results
Leads targeted opportunity search campaign efforts to improve operations performance and increase internal operational support capabilities
Identify and lead cross-functional teams to drive operational solutions and continuous improvement activities relating to mobile equipment
Provide strategic direction and standardization for mobile equipment purchases to incorporate the latest technology.
Fleet Utilization and Optimization
Assist in strategic planning and development to:
Reduce average fleet age
Improve utilization and availability
Right size fleet
Responsible for establishing and measuring the performance of the company’s mobile equipment by benchmarking with divisional and OEM Performance Data
Point of contact for Division Equipment Managers with regards to:
Safety and innovation
Standardization of policies and procedures
Dissemination of technical information
Product Safety Programs
Product Improvement Programs
Technical Information Bulletins
Parts and service issues with OEM’s
Caterpillar & Komatsu
Evaluating potential 3rd party vendors
OTR Tire Manufacturers
Warranty and policy assistance
Dealer Performance Meetings
Dealer Advisory Council Meetings
Standardization of Repairs
Standardization of Documents
EMS Coordination & Support
Ensures compliance with and utilization of the EMS to fullest potential
Identify needed resources to maintain systems compliance and usage
Identify and implement reporting standards for Mobile Equipment Managers
Utilize the system improve Total Cost of Ownership (TCOO) results
Training and Talent Management
Act as a clearing house of the company’s mobile equipment training programs and work with others to provide management with tools to incorporate efficiency improvements into day-to-day job activities.
Education, Experience, Skills Required:
Education: BS/BA degree or an equivalent combination of training and work experience.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible work experience some of which is in management of fixed and mobile equipment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of hard rock/aggregate/asphalt/ready mix plant mobile equipment requirements;
Knowledge of preventive maintenance principles and practices for mobile equipment;
Ability to effectively interface with all levels of employees in the organization;
Excellent interpersonal skills to include both written and oral communication skills;
Design and implement technical training programs;
Must have the ability to use computerized equipment and technology.
