The Manager of Laboratory Services provides operational supervision and leadership to the staff of the laboratory, pathology, and blood bank. Has twenty-four hour responsibility to oversee and manage the clinical, operational, and fiscal performance of the departments. Emphasis is placed on operational effectiveness as well as clinical expertise. Coordinates and participates in the education of staff as it relates to the functions of these departments. Maintains compliance with State and Federal regulations, (HCFA, CLIA, OSHA, JCAHO, AABB, FDA), relating to all laboratory services.
Under direction from the Chief Administrative Officer and administration, manages the activities and resources of the clinical laboratory, pathology, and blood bank including the identification of the department strategic plan and how it integrates into the Sutter Health and Novato Community Hospital strategic plans. Establishes policies, procedures, standards, goals and objectives for the Laboratory, Pathology, and Blood Bank. Manages and supervises staffing, staff recruitment and development, training, competency, budgeting, purchasing, testing, reporting, process improvement and regulatory compliance functions of the departments.
The Manager may be asked to perform clinical laboratory testing for routine and stat requests during periods of short staffing. Represents the laboratory, pathology, and blood bank in committees, steering committees, task forces and work groups, addressing Sutter and Novato Community Hospital organizational issues. Fosters positive working relationships with physicians and other departments and evaluating opportunities for new services to meet identified needs. This position may require some travel based on the needs to the department.
