Job Summary:

This individual will be instrumental to achieving our mission of building the area National Data Center Services (NDCS) organization, enabling innovation, furthering productivity and delivering value. The Data Center Manager is responsible for the management of the data center with responsibility for adherence to security procedures, Tier 1 support coordination, capacity management, equipment space assignments (both location on the floor and power distribution down to the outlet in the power strip), equipment installations, asset management, training, audits and all other functions relating to the management of the technology equipment on the Data Center floor. Promotes a customer-driven service culture. Acts as a champion through continued focus on proactively identifying and addressing processes impacting engineering. Manages a team of Engineers which may include exempt and non-exempt employees. Serves as subject matter expert

and provides guidance to employees as required.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Works in coordination with senior management to delegate and coordinate business initiatives.
  • Manages relationships and gains consensus among project stakeholders on a variety of fronts including equipment location, procurement, and cabling architecture ensuring on time delivery of business initiatives.
  • Monitors capital and operating expenditures and makes recommendations as necessary.
  • Develops trains mentors and motivates staff members in accordance with best practices and procedures developed by management.
  • Is required to work autonomously being vigilant in the completion of assigned projects and able to adjust to changing priorities quickly and efficiently.
  • Directs the day-to-day coordination and technical project management of installations and Tier 1 support including change control, resolution of stake holder issues, schedules and timelines to ensure that implementation is on track for overall project success.
  • Assists with SOW review, vendor selection, and oversight for non-standard projects.
  • Day to day responsibility of coaching and mentoring team members on deployment methodology, acts as the go to person for technical assistance, technical lead and distribution of resources to projects based on priority.
  • Assists in the risk assessment, quality, and scope management of deployment project plans.
  • Ensures all equipment is deployed according to industry standards in general and is in compliance with NDCS standards specifically.
  • Interfaces with vendors to maintain, troubleshoot, and install related equipment.
  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of all data center installed device hardware.
  • Responsible for the operational inventory of all data center equipment in Aperture.
  • Continued focus on defining, documenting, publishing, and streamlining methods and procedure for equipment deployment and implementation.
  • Installs, maintains and troubleshoots all data center cabling and infrastructure.
  • Supply chain management of National Data Center Services consumables.
  • Monitor security within the data center and raised floor environment.
  • Minimal direction required for job duties and high performance.
  • Provide required reporting in specified timelines.
  • Provide Incident Management and on call for data center(s).
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis and implement Corrective Actions for all incidents.
  • Manage a 24x7x 365 team.
  • Regular consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends variable schedule(s) as necessary.

Job Specification:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent
  • Engineering, Computer Science
  • Generally requires 6-9 years related experience
  • Two plus years of experience in deployment and installation of switches, routers and servers
  • Two plus years of experience in IP and Data Networking.
  • Three plus years of management experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of power generation and power distribution including facility and cabinet based PDU's, ATS's, and UPS's.
  • Diverse knowledge of HVAC dynamics.
  • Proven experience to effectively plan project installations and forecast infrastructure growth-including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory control, and documenting processes.
  • Basic knowledge of all current types of networking and server hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting policies and procedures.
  • Proven analytical, problem solving and organizational abilities.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work with vendors, employees and management.
  • Effective leadership skills to resolve conflicts and retain high morale.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt and accept change with strong decision-making skills to complete projects successfully.
  • Strong team working skills; develop and maintain excellent leadership skills including proactive customer service oriented working relationships with all appropriate levels inside and outside the company.

  • Solid technical skills relative to HSD and Voice network engineering, planning and management including experience with IP routers and switches equipment
  • Strong understanding of the IP protocol suite (e.g. ARP, IP, TCP, DNS, SNMP)
  • Strong grasp on server administration (i.e. Unix, Linux and Windows platforms)
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC power configurations and HVAC related thermal architecture
  • Data Center planning and engineering
  • Solid abilities using Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
