The Role:

The Manager, Medical Communications and Education is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies and plans for satellite symposia and other scientific education programs that communicate important information to the osteoarthritis medical and scientific community. The Manager, Medical Communications and Education will report into the Director, Medical Communications and Publications.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and gain internal alignment on Medical Education needs within the osteoarthritis therapeutic area
  • Coordinate and manage all Flexion-sponsored satellite symposia and other Flexion-sponsored Medical Education initiatives
  • Coordinate and manage all advisory board meetings in conjunction with the Medical Director
  • Assist in the development and production of scientific communication material for Medical Information booths at congresses as needed
  • Assist in the gathering of scientific intelligence at key congresses; consolidate, prioritize and disseminate in order to inform the cross-functional team as needed
  • Establish strong working relationships and actively collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure that Medical Education activities/content achieve their educational objectives
  • Oversee operational management of Medical Education programs, systems, and services
  • Manage the Medical Education internal review process
  • Manage all aspects of Medical Education agencies to produce content for use at Medical Education events; manage system vendors
  • Manage all financial and contractual aspects of assigned projects. Develop yearly budget and manage monthly spend within allocated budget
  • Establish and manage project timelines
  • Attend congresses, advisory boards as appropriate
  • Demonstrate consistent ethical and professional behavior and ensure compliance with all relevant Flexion policies, as well as with legal and ethical standards
  • Stay informed of applicable governmental compliance laws and industry standards for Medical Education 

Experience and Knowledge Required:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D, Pharm.D,) or equivalent in a scientific discipline
  • At least five years of experience in pharmaceutical company or medical communications agency in the planning and execution scientific communications; experience in the planning and execution of educational satellite symposia is required
  • Understanding of drug development process over different stages
  • Understanding of US regulations and guidelines
  • Experience managing vendors
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; experience developing and delivering presentations
  • Experience with Medical Education management systems desired
