The Manager of Marketing position provides the strategic direction for marketing tactics and initiatives that support the TDS consumer and commercial five-year strategic plan for all business units. This responsibility includes leading a Marketing team to drive sales across all product lines and ensure brand consistency across all tactics (nationally and locally). This includes determining needs for and overseeing relationships with external media buyers and advertising agencies.

In addition, this position leads the cross functional Marketing team meetings that include Product Management, Marketing, Digital Operations, Public Relations, Field Marketing and Sales. The objective of these teams are to develop, execute and monitor promotional offers and processes that directly impact the tactical sales efforts to meet sales goals.

The position provides leadership, focus, and direction to a Marketing team which is responsible for these core functional areas:

  • Integrated Marketing Campaign Management – Development, implementation, and management of marketingcampaigns to attract and acquire profitable customers, promote customerretention, and win back customers from competitors.
    • Campaign Management – Create and implement multi-channel advertising campaigns that align with sales goals.
    • Campaign Sales Support - Supply lead lists for outbound selling and develop sales incentive programs to support advertising campaigns.
  • Marketing Operations –Budget management forecasting, development, analysis, and reporting for marketing programs including monitoring the effectiveness of marketing mediums to meet goals and identify new ways to reach target markets and influence response.
  • Field Marketing – This position may manage the Field Marketing team. This includes development of community relationships and partnerships, administration of local marketing activities, and identification of public relations opportunities at a local level to support marketing initiatives and achieve sales and revenue targets within strategic markets.
  • This role is required to maintain a thorough understanding of all TDS markets along with product availability and competitive threats.

Provide strategic direction to the marketing team for customer acquisition and promotion activities to increase product and market penetration. Maintain and implement a strategic marketing plan and calendar to meet and exceed strategic objective and metrics.

Monitor effectiveness of marketing mediums used to meet goals. Identify new mediums to reach target market and influence response. Monitor and support effectiveness of sales channels ability to complete sales cycle. Create customer segmentation, propensity to buy and competitor response strategies which can be reflected in marketing/sales and product planning.

Lead new product marketing initiatives through collaborative efforts with Product Management/Development, Field Marketing, and Sales leadership to build strong execution plans for new market rollouts and bringing new products and technologies to market. Develop marketing/sales strategies to new and existing customer base to increase revenues.

Identify and increase marketing synergies across consumer and commercial segments and between business units

Provide strategic direction to the Digital Operations team, Marketing Managers and Creative Services as they will drive the consumer internet experience, and external advertising efforts. Manage the TDS brand and company image and presence in all markets.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience.
  • 10+ years marketing experience.
  • 2+ years management experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Competitive telecommunications industry experiencepreferred.
  • Strong strategic planning skills with experience in go to market initiatives, customer acquisition and retention.
  • Experience in project management, product management and process administration and sales support.
  • Ability to plan and execute sales and marketing programs that will produce revenue and results.
  • Experience in sales and/or marketing automation and targeting.
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to manage people in remote markets.
  • Strong background in the functional areas and disciplines of the telecommunications industry with capacity to learn quickly.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive customer interaction skills and experience.
  • Well-developed analytical thinking skills including good intuition and the ability to make educated decisions based on customer needs and TDS business plan.
  • Broad working knowledge of pricing/price promotional analysis, and statistical reporting.Experience using PC applications.
