We are looking for a motivated individual to fill the position of Manager-Local Government & Community Affairs within our Government & Public Affairs team based on the Navajo Nation. Alternate work locations may be approved at management’s discretion. This role will report to the Vice President of Government Affairs and will work closely with the Vice President of Business Development

We currently can hire for this position from the following locations: Navajo Nation in New Mexico, Arizona or Utah and surrounding areas.
Primary Purpose:
The position will serve as the company’s local public affairs representative on the Navajo Nation and will lead our efforts with the community, elected officials, nongovernmental entities, nonprofit organizations, and industry associations.
This individual is required to create and maintain relationships and work successfully with key stakeholders. Additionally, this individual will represent Tallgrass in public settings of varying sizes and formats. As such, you must have experience operating as a spokesperson or in a public-facing role. This role within Tallgrass will operate in a high-performing, fast-paced, and multi-disciplinary setting.
The ideal candidate should be able to:
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with key external stakeholders, including public, government, community leaders, environmental organizations, business and industry groups and other organizations whose work and missions impact the business and operations of Tallgrass.
- Develops and implements local stakeholder engagement plans to positively impact our relationships with local key constituencies and audiences. Creates and maintains the stakeholder engagement plan.
- Facilitates and leads necessary communications with local elected officials, business groups, residents and other local stakeholder groups, including giving prepared remarks, participating in local stakeholder forums and speaking about Tallgrass activities in a public setting to inform and engage stakeholders about the Company’s projects and impacts.
- Participates in local business and community events to promote awareness and the importance of the company’s role in the community.
- Prepares well-written, concise briefings and summaries related to local issues management and stakeholder engagement.
- Performs other job-related duties as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- Fluency in the Navajo language
- Preferred five (5) to ten (10) years of community relations experience
- Work independently, while also thriving in a team-based environment; know when to seek assistance.
- Adapting quickly in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment to successfully multi-task and manage deadlines to proactively complete transactions.
- Take the initiative by being action-oriented, immediately responsive to your client, and seeking opportunities for personal improvement.

Working Conditions:
- Occasional overnight travel may be required. Travel throughout the Navajo Nation may be required up to 50% of the time.
- Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including a credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and before being employed.
