Job Description

The Manager of Learning & Development works as part of the the team that creates, implements, facilitates, and measures learning and organization development programs for Pacific Sunwear (Retail, HQ, and ODC).Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: content development, instructional design, program facilitation, development of relationships with key business partners, idea generation, strategic planning, data gathering, implementation and evaluation of sustainable development programs. 

Primary Duties

  • Partner and support the on-going strategy and sustainability of PacSun initiatives and programs across the organization, including but not limited to: On-boarding, Performance Management, Talent Review, and Leadership Development
  • Partner to provide an aligned vision, development, design strategy and delivery of training programs for various functions by integrating adult learning principles, current applicable research, leadership competencies, and core job functions. Ensure that all L&D solutions reflect the PacSun brand and are tailored for the audience
  • Provide tools and resources to support the attraction,development and retention of top talent at PacSun
  • Develop content for self-paced and instructor-led training including virtual and eLearning classes which support the organization's direction
  • Redesign, customize and enhance existing programs to build supervisory and employee skills, competencies and engagement
  • Develop and oversee execution and measurement of pilot training programs though to final deployement.
  • Meet regularly with the Dir. of L&D for progress updates and development strategy. Meet regularly with department leaders to address on-going development needs
  • Stay current with learning and organization development trends in the industry and gather best practices. Collaborate with Human Resources and key business partners to create and implement needed division, department, and individual development programs. Ensure consistent and effective implementation across the organization
  • Promote a culture of "leaders teaching leaders" through coaching and train-the-trainer programs
  • Support continuous learning and development at all levels using various communication channels (i.e. virtual learning, social media, etc.)
  • Act as an internal consultant to cross-functional partners, providing feedback and direction needed to drive execution of talent initiatives
  • Act as an agent of change and provide strategic change management for all PacSun programs and initiatives. Assess Return on Investement (ROI) and Effect on Business (EOB) for all programs
  • Coordination of programs and other related duties as assigned


  • 5+ years professional experience in learning and development, training, or a combination of the two
  • Advance degree in organization development (or related field) or equivalent work experience
  • Strong team and/or project management experience with unquestionable business and personal integrity
  • Experience managing multiple diverse projects and deadlines
  • Knowledge and experience of performance and talent management systems
  • Must be a dynamic, enthusiastic, and results-driven leader who presents effectively to large groups representing different organization levels
  • Track record of high-performance partnerships, customer focus and developing others
  • Ability to navigate, influence change, and establish priorities in an ambiguous environment for self as well as direct reports
  • Critical thinker with high emotional intelligence; comfortable with ambiguity and helping others through it
  • Ability to motivate and inspire groups to desired outcomes
  • Must demonstrate creativity, an appetite for continuous learning and willingness to explore new ways to deliver learning solutions
  • Highly skilled at training, facilitation and delivering compelling and inspiring presentations
  • Background in instructional design utilizing adult learning principles and relevant business acumen
  • Above average proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Familiarity with eLearning software (i.e. Camtasia Studio, Articulate Storyline) highly desired
  • Experience with Publisher and Adobe Pro helpful
