The Family Office of Wittington Investments, Limited is responsible for the accounting, tax, investment and administrative functions for a prominent Canadian family. The Manager position will report to the Director, Financial Services and will be responsible to provide high level controllership, financial management, reporting, and tax compliance for individuals, trusts, corporations and partnerships. This includes financial advisory information in regards to tax, business, investment, legal, employment and other areas. The Manager position will be responsible for training and supervising a team of 3 individuals.


The positions requires a good understanding of personal and business accounting, multi-generational estate planning and investment reporting. The candidate should have a collaborative management style with the ability to work with internal staff, external advisors and interact directly with Family Office clients.   The candidate should also be able to present and implement additional cost or tax savings for all entities under management and identify additional value-added financial and business services that can be provided to the Family Office clients.




Administrative and cash management

  • Day to day maintenance of cash accounts and review of periodic cash flows as applicable
  • Review Daily Bank Report including reconciliation
  • Oversee the quarterly activity reports and market value reports
  • Manage lines of credit, family loans and cash distributions
  • Meetings with clients as required
  • Oversee and review all administration for all entities and the department including archive filing
  • Maintenance of SharePointdeadline calendar and annual taxdeadlineschedule
  • Review of department staff’s timesheets and suggest areas of additional efficiency or notify Director of any variances to time budgets
  • Ensure the team follows all department and Family Office policies and procedures and suggest or write additional policies and procedures as required


Bookkeeping, Financial Statement and other Financial Reports

  • Review monthly bookkeeping, financial statements, realized foreign exchange schedules, investment portfolio continuity schedules and other monthly general ledger reconciliations
  • Review and/or preparation of ad hoc financial analysis including cash flow modelling, investment analysis and family income and expenses statements as required by Director, senior management, clients or other professionals
  • Review and/or preparation of quarterly investment reporting
  • Review and/or prepare annual budgets and monthly and/or quarterly budget to actual reports as required for specific clients
  • Review year-end financial statements as prepared by external Accountants
  • Prepare and/or review adjusted cost base calculations and/or maintenance for family held companies
  • Special projects as delegated by the Director and/ Family Office Managing Director



  • Prepare corporate, individual and trust tax returns as required or oversee and review corporate, individual and trust tax returns prepared by external Tax Advisors and / or internal staff
  • Oversee and review personal / corporate / trust year-end tax information / audit packages prepared for external Tax Advisors
  • Oversee and review T5/T4/NR4 Summaries and slips prepped by internal Accountants
  • Oversee and review the computerized payrolls where applicable
  • Prepare and review of all foreign reporting requirements both US and Canadian
  • Assist Director, clients and professionals in tax planning and decision making where applicable
  • Liaise with external auditors, federal and provincial authorities with regards to various issues throughout the year
  • Oversee the review of notices of assessments/reassessments for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide tax advice to clients where applicable
  • Preparation of tax elections and othertax forms (T1 Adjustments, tax waivers etc..) as required
  • Oversee / review of WSIB / HST / NR4 / EHT calculations and payments
  • Review annual GRIP schedules and othertax calculation
  • Government audits – oversee the investigation and respond to queries as required



  • Provide clients, Director, senior management and external professionals with timely and reliable information for decision making purposes and assist in the decision making process when applicable
  • Responsible for motivating, training and supervising a staff of 3
  • Responsible for ensuring that all department deadlines, both internal or external, are met and that all payments to government or otherwise are paid in a timely manner
  • Organize weekly team meetings and quarterly team-building department meetings
  • Annual performance reviews of direct reports and interim reviews/meetings as required


Board Meetings

  • Oversee and/or prepare Board Package and annual resolutions and other periodic generic resolutions for signature as applicable



  • Must have a Canadian Accounting Designation (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA)
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Tax or Finance
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive senior accounting/financeexperience including the full cycle of accounting, complex financial analysis, advanced foreign currency translation, payroll, finance, human resources, internal control procedures, policy writing and Canadian tax in a public accounting firm, including a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to provide guidance on complex tax and accounting requirements
  • Experience in completing all forms of Canadian tax returns and common tax elections
  • Experience with US reporting requirements preferred
  • Experience with managing investment holding companies and educational trusts
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Applications
  • Advanced knowledge of TaxPrep and related programs
  • Strong time management skills with a successful work history of managing tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent supervisory skills
