Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis

General Position Summary/Purpose:

The Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis serves a critical role within the Financial Planning & Analysis group, providing support to the Medical Affairs organization. This role is responsible for forecasting, reporting and providing business analysis support to Medical Affairs business partners. The individual will collaborate with functional department leads to design, implement, and execute core planning & analysis processes with an emphasis on business partnering and customer service. Strong financial and business acumen in addition to broad knowledge of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) processes are essential to the success of this role.

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage monthly close and actuals processes, including distribution of management reporting packages, Budget Variance Analysis (BVA), and associated performance analytics
  • Review contracts / purchase requisitions to ensure financial compliance requirements
  • Prepare and / or review of quarterly results specific to collaboration spend
  • Prepare quarterly forecast for Medical Affairs specific to collaboration spend
  • Serve as the finance liaison with collaboration partner
  • Develop the annual financial plan and forecast spending
  • Support the Strategic Long Range Plan "LRP" & prepare a detailed 5 year forecast inclusive of business expansions
  • Prepare and present financials to management
  • Support the Joint Commercial Committee on financial matters
  • Develop strong partnership with business, senior management, and Finance leadership and provide insights into key trends and drivers
  • Identify areas of improvement and lead initiatives to recommend and implement change
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis (analyzing the life cycle of investigator sponsored trials (ISTs), analyzing payment terms for ISTs) and project support as required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate successfully
  • Manage competing assignments and meet multiple deadlines
  • Define appropriate performance metrics and provide guidance to the business partners


  • BS degree in Finance or Accounting
  • MBA/CPA preferred
  • 7+ year's experience in FP&A or similar function
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Strong presentation and leadership skills
  • Strong collaborative style of working with business partners, accounting and other functional groups
  • Advanced level of proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and financial reporting tools – including pivot tables, vlookup, sumifs, formatting, and generating charts/graphs
  • Able to work under pressure and can act with a sense of urgency and understands the need for responsiveness
