The Federal & International Tax Manager is primarily responsible for federal income tax matters including but not limited to: federal compliance (including estimates and extension), federal income tax audit, and tax research and planning to identify and execute federal tax minimization opportunities.  The Federal & International Tax Manager is also responsible for engaging with external tax advisors on international tax matters including but not limited to, foreign tax returns, foreign tax audits, foreign tax provision, foreign indirect taxes (e.g. VAT and GST), and transfer pricing documentation and reporting.


As a part of the HGV Corporate Tax Department, this position will closely interact with the Tax Reporting Manager and the State and Local Tax Manager on domestic and cross-border tax reporting, compliance, planning, and controversy matters.  The position will also routinely liaise with other functions within HGV (e.g. HR, accounting, operations, legal, treasury, and development)

  • Manage the preparation of consolidated federal tax return (including estimated payments and extensions)
  • Monitor, research and interpret federal and foreign tax laws, regulations, and pronouncements to ensure that the company is compliant
  • Manage the preparation and review of the federal and foreign income tax provision, including maintenance of uncertain tax positions
  • Manage federal and foreign audit process through preparation of response to information requests and interaction with auditors
  • Thoroughly and accurately analyze relevant information to identify, develop and lead federal and international tax planning opportunities
  • Manage federal and foreign tax account reconciliations
  • Manage federal and foreign tax expense and cash tax forecasting
  • Manage federal tax credits and incentives projects (e.g. WOTC, R&D)
  • Working with the Tax Reporting Manager, analyze and review complex book-tax differences including foreign tax credit and Subpart-F analysis
  • Liaise with the relevant stakeholders to assist with analyzing business programs and advising on federal and international tax impacts and mitigation strategies
  • Develop and manage direct reports
  • Constantly strive for process efficiencies
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by Senior Director, Tax and Vice President, Tax

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field
  • 5-7 years related experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of corporate or public accounting experience with emphasis on federal and international tax matters
  • 2 plus years supervisory experience
  • Working understanding of US GAAP rules
  • Solid understanding of federal and multi-national entity taxation
  • Computer proficiency, specifically with MS Excel and MS Word
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Independent and self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment
  • Ability to research, understands, and document complex and technical tax matters
  • Ability to initiate and manage collaborative efforts of multiple teams throughout the organization
  • Absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information
  • Strong problem solving skills, and ability to identify and prevent potential problems
  • Ability to interpret the company’s books and records and transactional accounting
  • Ability to advocate and implement professional development for self and direct report(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • CPA
  • 7 plus years related experience
  • 4 plus years management experience
  • Experience with the hospitality industry taxation is a plus.
