As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will take responsibility for all aspects of the environmental, health, and safety of Blue Origin’s people and facilities at all Blue Origin sites. You must have a passion for continuous improvement of a safety culture and building agile safety processes. You must have a passion for solving complex problems, providing operable solutions, and you must be capable of acting with minimal direction on your own initiative. You will be responsible for helping to maintain a corporate culture that emphasizes accountability, discipline, and attention to detail at all levels. You will report to the Blue Origin Director of Safety and Mission Assurance. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.


  • Provide EHS function leadership and supervision of staff
  • Develop EHS standards, policies, and procedures to implement and manage EH&S programs at Florida or Kent sites
  • Provide environmental health and safety technical expertise on manufacturing, test, and operations systems; process design and operating procedures
  • Develop and manage key EH&S performance indicators; provide performance assessments to senior management; recommend and implement performance improvement plans
  • Provide EHS subject matter expertise to engineering, production, and test resources
  • Assess and identify the workplace for the presence of health, safety and environmental concerns and make recommendations to eliminate or control identified concerns
  • Evaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measures
  • Evaluate operations, equipment and practices for environmental health and safety compliance with regulatory and company standards
  • Prepare and submit reports to federal and state and local regulatory agencies as required
  • Continually update and ensure compliance with the Blue Origin Health and Safety Manual
  • Create, update, and coordinate emergency response plans with state and local emergency planning committees
  • Indoctrinate new employees on Blue Origin's safety program
  • Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions


  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety
  • 10 years in occupational safety and environmental management roles
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of process safety management methods
  • Knowledge of close call reporting practices and processes
  • Root cause investigation and corrective action experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


  • 15+ years total work
  • Experience in operational aerospace environment or oil and gas or chemical industry
  • ASP,CSP, CIH, or CHMM certification
  • 6-sigma continuous improvement knowledge; Green or Black Belt certification
