Summary

Responsible for management ofelectrical engineering department including project management, electricalengineering design leadership, staff development, and client outreach.Candidate will apply design and electricalengineering skills to a variety of diverse and challenging projects throughoutAlaska in a multi-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate will havea minimum of 12 years of experience in the electrical engineering designconsulting business, with demonstrated arctic and commercial or industrial /oiland gas design capabilities and with at least 4 years of experience as projectmanager for a multi-discipline team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineeringproposals, business development, and sales activities.

  • Prepares and monitors projectbudgets for projects.

  • Maintains project schedules andensures timely completion of assigned projects.

  • Delegates projectresponsibilities to staff.

  • Serves as a project manager orproject engineer and as a designated client contact.

  • Coordinates pricing, estimating,scoping and marketing strategies for proposed projects.

  • Prepares engineering agreementsfor projects within the department.

  • Prepares design computations andquantity estimates

  • Develops probable constructioncost estimates for his/her projects within the department

  • Attends client meetings - days ornights.

  • Responsible for keepingmanagement informed about work in process, ensures accurate client billings,and monitors outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on his/herprojects.

  • Analyzes reports, maps, drawings,blueprints, and tests to plan and design project.

  • Directs and supervises otherengineers’ activities as needed.

  • Handles routine contractadministration.

  • Prepares or modifies reports,specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for project.

  • Instructsdraftspersons/technicians to convert designs to working drawings.

  • Visits construction sites tomonitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.

  • Serves as onsite projectrepresentative.

  • Uses computer assistedengineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and designdocuments.

  • Responsible for project managerand/or project team quality system tasks as defined in the quality manual.

  • Reaches out to new and existingclients for potential project development and department growth.

  • Mentors junior staff members.

  • Participate in local professionand student organizations.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to thedepartment or unit’s success also may be assigned.

  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineeringfrom an accredited four-year college or university required.

  • Alaska PE required.

  • A minimum of 12 years’ experience in electricalengineering, including experience with the A/E design process andspecifications leading to construction documents.

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in engineeringproject management for multi-discipline projects.

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience as principalelectrical engineer (responsible charge).

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge in the designof low and medium voltage distribution systems, low and medium voltage variablespeed drives, arc flash analysis, short circuit analysis, voltage dropcalculations, control systems, standby power systems, medium voltagetransmission and protection coordination.

  • Demonstrated success as projectmanager/designer of record on projects valued up to $5M

  • Proficient in the use of EasyPower for powersystem modeling.

  • Proficient with MS Office software; includingMS Word, and Excel.

  • Experience preparing graphical representationsof designs

  • Experience in lighting, power, signal,communication, controls and fire detection systems.

  • Experience in performing design calculationsand preparing equipment or material specifications.

  • Experience with all phases of projectmanagement and production.

  • Experience in project delivery of Alaskaprojects.

  • Experience in budgeting, scheduling, planning,design specification and working drawings

  • Experience with having project authority todirect, control and monitor all activities.

  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical anddesign codes and arctic design.

  • Demonstrated ability to sell services andincrease project backlog.

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in ateam environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in afast-track environment.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skillsto peers, managers, and clients

  • Ability to effectively present information andrespond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and thegeneral public.

  • Must be able to travel to remote locations inarctic environment as needed.

  • Experience in commercial, state and federalfacility design desirable.

  • Industrial, oil and gas facility designdesirable.

  • Project management professional, earned valueproject management experience, LEED desirable.

  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD and Revit.Experience with AutoCAD Electrical desirable.

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable drivingrecord for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicleinsurance policy.

Working Conditions and PhysicalRequirements

Weather: Indoors -environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: The noise levelin the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment:Office building with standard office environment.

Physical requirements:Employee is required to occasionally liftand/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, usehands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl,talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel:Travel required up to 25 percent of thetime. Employee will travel to remote areas and may be required to usealternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snowmachines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.
