Job Summary

Reporting to Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, the Manager / Director – Legal Operations & Administration leads the operations and administration functions for the Company’s Legal Department.

Job Description

  • Leads a team of legal professionals, including paralegals and legal assistants

  • Supports the implementation of Company and Legal Department programs, procedures, methods and practices

  • Assists in developing annual operating plan and budget, and tracks accruals and forecasting. Works with Legal Department senior leadership and Finance to identify spending trends, potential cost savings and efficiency opportunities.

  • Develops plans and schedules for delivering training to clients regarding Legal operations and administration matters

  • Manages costs for outside legal counsel and other third-party service providers

  • Plans and manages Legal Department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with Company business goals and objectives

  • Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the Legal Department

  • Leads cost and performance management for supplier and outside counsel network

  • Assists with the development and implementation of Legal Department policies, communications and training

  • Develops cross-functional business process improvement, programs and tools that effectively deliver legal service to enable speed to market, revenue opportunities and risk mitigation

  • Creates client self-help tools: dashboards, toolkits, legal training, Q A, process flow, contract builders, etc.

  • Delivers Legal systems and solutions management: matter, document, e-billing, corporate secretary/subsidiary, IP/docketing, legal research, ethics and compliance

  • Other duties as assigned


R equired

  • Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited institution

  • 5 – 10 years’ prior management experience

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills

  • Working knowledge of finance concepts, and deep understanding of budgeting and financial planning process

  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities

  • Ability to achieve goals through direct and indirect influence and collaboration


  • Prior experience working in a legal operations role in a law firm or in-house corporate legal department

  • Strong working knowledge of systems and technology, including e-billing/matter management, contract management, content management, business process management

  • Paralegal certification

  • MBA or JDpreferred


Masters or Equivalent
