L.L.Bean is seeking a Manager Digital Experience for our Marketing Department at the L.L.Bean Corporate Offices in Freeport, Maine.  The successful candidate will be responsible for site-wide user experience including structural design to create actionable and effective paths for our customers ensuring site-wide consistency and providing a platform for future enhancements.  Developing and championing L.L.Bean usability accessibility and user experience standards, this leader will have key e-commerce staff management responsibilities.


Manage assigned personnel

  • Make/review employment decisions

  • Coach and develop employees in job related skills through work assignment direct training and regular feedback both positive and negative
  • Administer wages and salaries
  • Resolve personnel problems following company policies and procedures
  • Assist employees in identifying personal development and career needs
  • Provide guidance and support on these issues
  • Communicate and monitor adherence to company policies procedures and programs
  • Review and update job descriptions organization structure and staffing levels, oversee the maintenance and updating of related records
  • Minimize risks of work related injuries and illnesses and associated costs including lost work time
  • Hire manage and develop staff to optimize individual contributions to business unit goals

Manage and lead the following disciplines within the e-commerce team

  • Information Architects
  • Business Analysts

Manage and coordinate contractor staff required to support information architecture and business analyst needs

  • Ensure that the team is following and influencing standards established by other stakeholder groups within the company such as creative customer satisfaction corporate marketing
  • Assume responsibility for the customer experience and behavior on site as measured by metrics controlled by site experience such as conversion rate, overall abandonment rate, shopping bag abandonment rate, time spent on site and search success rate
  • Monitor customer feedback for trends and issues so that site design and content can be influenced. This would include reviewing Foresee results or any other customer feedback
  • Influence and participate in the development of the e-commerce strategic direction
  • Participate in the ongoing web site planning development and execution to meet the goals of the unit's business plan and to support brand positioning
  • Defining and ensuring compliance with information architecture principles and guidelines for the site including content organization and hierarchy navigation and guidance systems and content integration
  • Development and maintain the architecture content and navigation for site development and content projects in collaboration with Creative IS and other relevant teams
  • Act as a business owner for key e-commerce project, responsible for defining project goals, setting the high level scope and ensuring that objectives of the project are met through implementation
  • Act as a key member of the team responsible for developing site enhancements

  • Ensure assigned efforts meet site standards develop wireframes and act as key user advocate during all phases of the testing process
  • Assume responsibility for projects meeting L.L.Bean accessibility guidelines
  • Assist in the development of recruiting guidelines logistical test plans and test scripts
  • Moderate or facilitate test sessions as required
  • Included in these responsibilities are not only the desktop/browser based access to L.L.Bean's e-commerce offerings but also mobile and tablet based access.

Education:  Bachelors Degree

Experience:  10 years miminum


  • Ablility to manage a large e-commerce functional area in support of department wide user experience requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in user experience design information architecture and usability
  • Proven leadership results and strong professional skills
  • Ablility to create and deliver a long range department wide user experience strategy
  • Effective as primary interface to other department managers for requirements gathering and solution delivery
  • Sets strategic direction for usability testing
  • Understands corporate strategies and long range plans and can appropriately prioritize programs
  • Reviews and evaluates team member performance
  • Ablility to build effective vendor relationships; manage vendor performance
  • Experience sourcing external solutions (moderators and/or facilities)
  • Experience successfully managing to a budget
  • Skilled at collaborating cross functionally within e-commerce and across business areas
  • Excellent presentation as well as oral and written communication skills
  • Experience creating SOW's
  • Ability to quickly grasp new ecommerce principles
  • Strong influencing skills, ability to gain consensus and support
  • Ablility to effectively multi task in a fast paced work environment
  • Experience developing and implementing metrics to track training results
