Posting Job Description Position Summary:

The Desktop Engineering Manager is accountable for the design, implementation, stability and continuous improvement of end user technologies, including end user mobile and desktop operating systems and hardware, virtual and physical desktop environments, desktop applications and software, and various standard peripherals and print solutions.  This individual will collaborate directly with our security and compliance teams ensuring that the desktop environment meets the levels of protection of our systems and data as required.
The manager is responsible for staying current on rapidly changing technologies, as well as managing, mentoring and developing talent within the group.
The role is accountable to partner with various teams in understanding their technology roadmap and developing efficient solutions for Time Warner Corporate computing. This position requires leadership, initiative, discipline, system-wide problem solving, and prioritization. 

  • Manage the Desktop Engineering team members responsible for day-to-day high-level support and engineering activities for end-user computing services, including, but not limited to, mobile and desktop Operating Systems (OS) and hardware, virtual and physical desktop environments, desktop applications, and other standard peripherals and print solutions
  • Assist in performing high level problem management duties such as identifying recurring application and software, tools, OS and infrastructure incidents. This includes communicating identified problems to relevant stakeholders and building a solution to prevent system wide single or reoccurring incidents
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with executives, business partners, desktops support, information security and individual team members regarding the Desktop Engineering solution roadmap and upcoming changes in the environment
  • Collaborate with other teams to transition services into the production operating environment with proper operational support, documentation and training
  • Identify, assess and communicate operational risks
  • Accountable for the planning and execution of Desktop Engineering projects  
  • Manage operations staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, and evaluation
  • Work closely with various teams within Corporate Technology & Enterprise Infrastructure Services to understand the application development roadmap and infrastructure initiatives
  • Gather and analyze requirements from relevant teams to provide an optimized desktop, VDI and mobile solution to ensure a positive end user experience 
  • Participate in strategy planning with senior technology leadership team
  • Work with various teams to plan new service offering for forthcoming business needs
  • Participate in capacity planning and develop specifications for infrastructure deployment, supporting new applications or application changes
  • Participate in high availability and disaster recovery configuration, testing and automation for the business applications
  • Create runbook covering Desktop Engineering solutions prior to production deployment

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 to 12 years experience in a large IT environment
  • Minimum 4 to 6 years experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in engineering technical end user technology, including desktop and mobile OS hardware, environments, applications, and virtualization
  • Experience in requirements engineering, solution architecture, design, development and deployment
  • Extensive knowledge of project management processes, systems development methods, organizational change management concepts, and business process improvement methods
  • In-depth knowledge of end user technology, including trends and industry best practices, and project management techniques 
  • Working knowledge of effective vendor management
  • Working knowledge of IT continuity management
  • Strong engineering and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Strong planning, organizational and leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate in terms understandable to end users at all levels
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, dive into challenges and provide direction
