Provides leadership, vision, oversight and hands-on support to a diverse team in support of a multi-platform database environment, ensuring adherence to business objectives and accepted security standards. Manages the day to day activities of database administration staff focusing on system uptime, reliability, architecture, design and meeting project deliverables. Ensures the timely resolutions to problems, incidents and support requests as they arise, and ensures adherence to change management policies.
o Develops and maintains consistent communication with business process owners to determine their requirements as they relate to the Oracle or SQL database platforms.
o Manages installation, maintenance and support of database platforms and system software components in virtual private cloud environment.
o Coordinates between the database team and private cloud provider staff to ensure contracted infrastructure and platform support is provided for both the Oracle and SQL environments, and any issues are resolved within accepted service level agreement timeframes.
o Leads collaboration with team members, private cloud provider staff, users, vendors, and other TriWest technical staff members on the identification, isolation and correction of problems as well as enhancements in the database systems.
o Provides analysis and recommendations regarding packaged software and hardware that will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of TriWest operations.
o Oversees the development of short- and long-range objectives and tactical plans for the database environment.
o Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with hardware, software, consulting, and employee resource vendors to insure that TriWest systems are adequately supported and external opportunities are understood and considered in the planning process.
o Prepares and tracks documents pertaining to contracting and purchasing with outside vendors (MSAs, POs, SOWs, amendments, etc.) through the approval process and coordinate with IT Directors and/or the CIO to negotiate and finalize contracts and agreements.
o Ensures that the database team has configured database backups to support data recovery requirements and that restore process are tested on a regular recurring basis.
o Prepares and commits to a Service Level Agreement for Database Administration services.
o Accountable for compliance to accepted database security standards – NIST, DISA STIGs and VA Handbook.
o Ensures appropriate performance metrics are collected and monitored for the database environments and are available upon request.
o Manages development and implementation of best practices, policies, processes and procedures for thedatabase team.
o Ensures all pertinent documentation is created and maintained to reflect current standards and process and all process are following documented standards and guidelines.
o Manage and coordinate after-hours support for the database environments.
o Works with the other IT Managers to provide consistent management practices across IT.
o Performs other duties as assigned.
o Regular and reliable attendance is required
ARE YOU QUALIFIED?
Education & Experience
o Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration/Management, Engineering or a related field or equivalent background working with database platforms.
o 5 year’s experience in IT management with a focus on database administration on the Oracle and/or SQL Server platforms.
o 5 year’s experience in supervisory/staff management experience.
o 3 year’s experience in operational analysis, performance management, and project management.
o Experience using Microsoft Lync 2015, SQL Server 2012, Oracle 12c on an AIX platform
o Familiarity working in a call center industry.
o Knowledge of NIST, DISA STIG or VA Handbook security requirements.
o Knowledge of general telecommunication systems.
o Knowledge of networking concepts.
