This role will support the Energy Group in portfolio management and credit underwriting efforts. Must have the ability to work independently and handle assigned transactions within the established turnaround standards with a focus on more complex loan structures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the underwriting process for the Energy Line of Business, including the preparation of in-depth credit analysis and complex underwriting of loans to new and prospective clients, primarily in the Upstream and Midstream sectors
  • Work with Portfolio Managers, Relationship Managers, and Credit Policy Officers to assess credit opportunities, identify and mitigate key risks, and evaluate structural alternatives
  • Coordinate scheduling and timely completion of underwriting assignments for the Energy Line of Business with team members in the Dallas and Houston offices, while mentoring junior-level Underwriters to elevate team performance
  • Assist in the preparation of Energy Line of Business portfolio and regulatory reporting, as well as involvement in periodic special projects with Executive, Credit, and Underwriting teams
  • Ensure that internal policies, procedures, and practices are maintained and updated to improve underwriting efficiencies, maintain credit quality, and adhere to regulatory guidance

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years underwriting experience in a commercial bank
  • Prior management and energy underwriting experience strongly preferred
  • Completion of a formal credit training program
  • BBA in Accounting or Finance, or related degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting and its practical application in the credit underwriting process
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to read and assess individual and company financial statements, reserve reports, drilling schedules and engineering reports
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
  • Ability to develop mentorships and promote team orientation
  • Proven problem recognition and resolution skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully execute multiple tasks concurrently
