The Manager, Corporate Tax (Federal) is responsible for assisting with the federal tax planning, compliance and tax provision functions. The Manager will manage preparation and review of Federal Income Tax Compliance activities for Navient. The Manager will assist management in the identification, research and implementation of federal tax savings/deferral opportunities.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Manage federal income tax compliance function

  • a. Analyze and reconcile federal income tax accounts
  • b. Prepare/review book-tax differences on a quarterly/annual basis
  • c. Review federal income tax returns prepared by outside provider
  • d. Calculate quarterly estimated tax payments/annual return extension payments
  • e. Calculate annual return-to-provision true-up
  • f. Oversee EIN application and W-9 processes
  • g. Work independently to develop efficiencies in federal income tax compliance processes

2. Tax Department Support and Internal Control Process Design and Testing

  • a. Support tax planning, provision, and state/local tax teams as needed
  • b. Assist in developing/reviewing federal tax compliance policies
  • c. Assist in testing internal controls

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting or similar
  • 5+ years of Tax/Compliance experience with large-size accounting firm or Corporate Tax department
  • Experience in federal corporate income taxation
  • CPA or CPA eligible
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task while working under tight deadlines
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with financial institutions
  • Experience with tax accounting under ASC 740
  • Experience with OneSource Tax Calendar and Tax Provision systems
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and Workday.
