Plans, coordinates, implements and conducts independent scientific research including complex laboratory testing, experiments and analysis following established protocols. Provides leadership and supervision in an assigned research area. Analyzes and evaluates findings. Organizes and conceptualizes ideas leading to proposals. Writes technical summaries and publications or co-authors. Prepares and makes formal presentations of research results. Is positioned to apply for smaller/regional grants. High level of knowledge in scientific research processes, procedures, and objectives. Must possess ability to implement experiments in the subject discipline with the ability to trouble shoot issues. Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline required. Possesses ability to run complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training. Must possess knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis. Must have significant experience in analyzing and evaluating data. General level of knowledge of project management, decision-making, and analytical skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a research group or team. Required publications and funding upon appointment is minimal.
Candidates for the position should have considerable experience in mesenchymal and/or adipose-derived stem cell research. These studies will be multifaceted, focusing on: 1) our basic understanding of these cell populations and how they function; 2) explore the utility of these cellular therapies in a number of preclinical disease and injury models (which a heavy focus on neurological disorders and orthopedic applications); and 3) assist our clinical research team in study design and implementation of clinical trials utilizing this mode of cellular therapy. The candidate will be expected to direct research studies with nominal oversight and have good verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be willing to work as a part of an integrated multidisciplinary research team to move cellular therapies from the bench to the bedside. Sanford Research is a multi-site institution and occasional local travel between sites may be required.
Requires a doctorate degree in a clinical, health, or life science field plus a minimum of three years post-doctoral experience in related subject field of study. Equivalent to Instructor. Management experience is highly recommended. Selected from national applicant pool or known to be nationally competitive.
