The Recovery Area Manager is responsible for the overall leadership of the Recovery area at the Springfield, Oregon paper mill. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of recovery and power boiler operations, evaporators, steam header ops, turbine generator, and air systems and must be a strong safety advocate and lead their team in achieving safety excellence. Candidates should also be well versed in the 3PQP training process. Position will have on-call responsibilities and will report to the Recovery Business Unit Manager.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Promote and support an everyday safety first culture
  • Ensure the recovery department operates within all environmental permits for the mill
  • Lead by example and ensure acceptable work practices are being followed
  • Enforce company policies and procedures while maintaining a supportive work environment
  • Provide leadership to troubleshoot operating issues with recovery and power boilers, evaporators, turbine ops, and air and feedwater systems
  • Manage salaried staff including OMC, Process Manager, and Process Engineer.
  • Sets expectations for hourly team member operational performance
  • Ensure reliability plans for major area equipment rebuilds are met
  • Develop and support area capital planning to allow the department to meet reliability and cost reduction targets
  • Assist with developing yearly budget for recovery operating department
  • Keep reliable methods and training materials up to date.
  • Drive training and development for both hourly and salaried team
  • Drive 5S activities
  • Key Knowledge & Experience Requirements BS Degree in Engineering required
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in Pulp & Paper
  • Strong commitment to safety in all aspects of business operations
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills and ability to motivate others
  • Technical problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage teams and projects
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project
