JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting & Contract Compliance Manager, as part of Americas Finance, is responsible for managing and overseeing compliance for Full Service management (and related) agreements. The main responsibility includes reviewing and validating MI fees are properly recorded on the hotel's financial statements in accordance with their executed management agreements. This includes calculation/monitoring of base management fees, incentive management fees and royalty fees for hotels located in the US, Canada and CALA. This position will work closely with Financial Contract Compliance (FCC) Revenue Accounting (RA), Directors of Finance, Regional Teams and other finance departments. This position will be an integral part of the Americas Finance & Administration group and assist in ensuring overall compliance with GAAP accounting practices and supporting MI fee revenues. The Manager will serve as a contract expert within Marriott International (MI) by providing support in understanding financial aspects of the contract and as a point of contact for Americas Finance & Administration within Global Finance, the market and hotels. The Manager will participate with internal departments to resolve financial issues and coordinate with other groups to ensure appropriate execution of contractual requirements, specifically related to fees. The work performed will enable the successful execution of financial compliance requirements, thereby minimizing the risk of financial exposure to the company and owners. EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS  Review and interpret management (and related) agreements to ensure compliance with contractual requirements for complex multi-brand and multi-unit portfolios.  Support and validate hotel's fee expenses through the various planning cycles: forecast, budget and Long-Range Planning (LRP), along with other corporate and organizational processes identified.  Ensure that fee expense is accurately recorded on hotel's financial statements on a monthly basis in accordance with the management contracts.  Provide monthly variance analysis between Marriott's Fee Revenues and Hotel expenses to ensure compliance with SOX controls.  Partner with Revenue Accounting, Regional Teams, Hotels, Financial Reporting and Americas Finance as necessary to provide information and support.  Support and maintain allocations for fee related expenses by working with Finance Application Business Support (FABS).  Serve as point of contact and provide contract expertise to various Corporate based departments (Asset Management, Marriott Business Services/Accenture Hospitality Services, Financial Reporting & Analysis, Legal, etc.), as well as regional finance teams and hotels.  Provide work review, consultation and management (when applicable) support to other members of the Contract Compliance team.  Identify and implement process improvements for contract compliance processes.  Coordinate with Revenue Accounting team members to ensure the accurate interpretation of agreement terms related to transactions. Provide guidance on tactical issues with proposed contract language during negotiations and contract development.  Ensure appropriate accounting teams understand contract terms and have processes in place to account for transaction activity and flag material financial risks. Engage Legal and/or Accounting Policy, as appropriate to ensure intent and understanding of contract provisions.  Perform special projects, as needed.  Primary support for implementing Project TRAIN for the Americas, a new tool which will house contracts and related information. CANDIDATE PROFILE Experience  Minimum 5 years of relevant finance/accounting experience, managerial experience a plus  Exposure to management contracts and or legal agreements Manager-Accounting & Contract Compliance Contract Compliance Marriott Confidential & Proprietary 5/16/19 Page 2 of 2  Experience in the Lodging/Hospitality industry preferred Education or Certification  Bachelor's Degree required; Finance or Accounting or related discipline preferred  CPA or advanced degree a plus Knowledge and Skills  Experience in interpreting complex management, lease and guaranty contract provisions  Strong financial acumen with proven analytical skills  Understanding of Marriott accounting and finance processes and systems preferred  Understanding of accounting and the correlation of operating Financial Statements; ability to analyze and interpret results  Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and controls  Proficient in Microsoft Office applications  Experience with PeopleSoft preferred Attributes  Ability to motivate others to perform at peak levels; ability to enhance the organization's capabilities through effective management of resources and skills  Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with all levels of management  Strong organizational and managerial skills to be able to effectively manage multiple priorities, follow through on commitments, and coordinate interdepartmental projects  Effectively work in a team environment  Ability to embrace continuous process improvement  Strong attention to detail and accuracy  High degree of initiative; highly motivated self starter  Strong interpersonal skills with a "win-win" negotiating style
