Position Summary:

A Managed Service Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting customers on DSCI’s Hosted IT Services and providing DSCI Professional Services.  A Managed Service Systems Engineer should be proficient at small, medium and large business system support and implementation.  He/She must be proficient at Microsoft Server 2012 and 2008 to include all standard services (ACTIVE DIRECTORY DOMAIN SERVICES, NPS, DFS, IIS and REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES).  A high proficiency in troubleshooting Microsoft systems issues is a must.  Additionally the Systems Engineer interacts with client management to answer questions, problems and requests regarding system issues. 

This position requires experience consulting directly with customers in order to support and implement systems to fulfill customer business requirements.  Also required is experience with hypervisors, SANs and basic networking and firewall knowledge.  Critical for this position is the ability to consult and work with a customer to craft the environment that they are looking for, provide a basic scope for potential solutions and executing the proposed project plan.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide consulting support for client environments to include technology planning, business continuity recommendations and new systems hardware and software implementations
  • Provide support for DSCI Managed and Hosted Solutions and monitoring systems
  • Monitors and tunes appropriate systems to ensure optimum level of performance
  • Troubleshoots problems to locate root cause and appropriate fixes in expedient fashion
  • Provides client support and technical issue resolution in support of other teams
  • Consults with third party vendors to obtain support, make recommendations, schedule work orders, and assist customer with their requests
  • Documents or revises user and technician training manuals and procedures
  • Assists Lead Senior Systems Engineer in the development and ongoing updates of DSCI documentation
  • Assists Managed Services Engineering team members with client projects
  • Develops and executes methodologies for increasing infrastructure optimization and standardization
  • Assists in developing and maintaining group policies for client systems
  • Maintains ongoing communications with support teams regarding application issue resolution and general workstation management support
  • Works with vendors for support with resolving issues
  • Collaborates to maintain a library of system-supporting processes and procedural documentation
  • Monitors the health of systems, to include infrastructure, servers, and clients
  • Available after hours as needed to assist with troubleshooting, escalations and emergency situations
  • Available after hours as needed for scheduled project work
  • DSCI may modify duties and responsibilities as customers’ needs dictate

Technical Requirements:

  • A knowledge of Microsoft platforms is crucial as well as knowledge of networking and the OSI model
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government securityinvestigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified or sensitive information systems
  • 5+ years’ experience managing workstation and server management platforms, OS image deployment and maintenance and related technologies
  • Basic scripting knowledge with VBScript, Powershell and like scripting tools
  • Experience with supporting Windows7, Windows8.1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2
  • Experience with monitoring of ticketing system, prioritizing problems, supporting projects, and supporting enterprise level infrastructure
  • Experienceworking withinventory, supporting client hardware (workstations, laptops, printers, and other equipment)
  • Experience installing, patching/maintaining, and troubleshooting applications and operating systems
  • An ability to convey technical issues and material to non-technical individuals
  • Experience with systems administration
  • Experienceworking with company and client documentation and storage procedures
  • Self-motivated learner


  • Minimum 5years IT Systems work experience
  • Customer Service Experience and positive attitude
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Candidates will also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related experience
  • Microsoft MCP, MCSA, MCSE
