The Maintenance Manager is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing functional and operational activities in plant equipment maintenance which include: troubleshooting, repairs, projects and the continuous development and supervision of maintenance staff. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and performance of maintenance related programs and KPIs as they evolve within a state of the art, highly automated nutritional manufacturing facility.
What you will be doing:
Ensure adequate staffing levels for all operational shifts. Assign labor as needed.
Evaluate, update, and implement Preventive Maintenance program for ALL plant equipment.
Propose, justify and execute continuous improvement projects & equipment purchases to reduce or eliminate unplanned production downtime, improve the quality of products and reduce plant operating costs.
Maintain, repair manufacturing equipment and critical supporting systems such as compressors, Boilers, Purified or DI water systems, Chillers, Air handlers, dehumidifiers, vacuums, dust collectors, powder handling systems and other plant equipment.
Maintain effective inventory levels of parts to reduce downtime while minimizing inventory carrying cost.
Prepares maintenance expense budget and assists with planning and cost estimates for annual and long term capital budgets.
Tests newly installed machines/equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specs.
Works closely with Purchasing PD, Production, Packaging & Engineers for testing of new products or materials and makes the necessary recommendations
Plan/ implement effective policies/ procedures for maintenance department ensuring progression to, and continuation of, reliability centered maintenance (RCM) where all equipment/machinery/systems are "up & running" state of repair at all times.
Direct the daily activities of maintenance staff through supervisors to ensure completion of assigned, planned and unplanned work.
Direct daily activities of the machine shop and maintenance technicians in coordination with project managers, engineers, Facilities/Sanitation & production managers to support improvement initiatives and repairs.
Works closely with production managers/engineers to support/develop/ implement improved changeovers, guide/train setup operators to minimize setup times and equipment stoppages.
Research, plan and prepare proposals for equipment and machinery modifications that will reduce downtime, allow for more efficient utilization and maintain NPI standards for safety and quality.
Work with Ops. director, Manufacturing, Quality Managers and Engineers to review, develop, and implement innovative changes, actions and decisions to reduce cost, improve efficiencies and/or provide a safer work environment for all plant employees.
Works closely with Manufacturing Manager and Supervisors to develop opportunities for continuous improvement and implementation of solutions.
Coordinate through maintenance staff the necessary actions and activities of vendors, contractors and suppliers that are required to support the ongoing operation of a professionally run maintenance department.
Oversee maintenance of all business critical records/documents/blueprints for maintenance assets at NPI.
Oversee the preparation of, and adherence to, maintenance related budgets by Maintenance Supervisory staff.
Ensures all maintenance related projects and work are in compliance with standards set by FDA, GMP, OSHA, HAACP and any additional governing agencies by which we manage our business.
Drive a maintenance culture that is focused on continuous improvement, positive morale and exceptional levels of customer service.
Consistently demonstrate by example NPI leadership behaviors focusing on how we accomplish, in addition to, what results we accomplish.
Annually work with Plant Management and Human Resources to set stretch performance goals/ developmental objectives for the maintenance team members.
Provide formal and informal support and coaching to direct reports as needed to improve performance or generate opportunities for further growth and development.
Maintain awareness of, and compliance with, all applicable NPI policies.
What you bring to the team:
BS Engineering or Associatedegree with significant equipment maintenance experience.
Minimum 5 years' experience in Pharmaceutical/Nutritional/food plant maintenance
Prior supervisory/management experience in a maintenance and/or manufacturing environment. Minimum 5 years.
Must be computer literate, experienced in using computer software applications such as CADD, Microsoft Excel, word, PowerPoint, MSProject Management, etc.
Performs special projects as assigned

Demonstrated experience with LEAN manufacturing.

Utility equipment maintenance experience
Must be experienced in vendor negotiations to optimize savings

Experience with condition based monitoring of equipment
Pharmaceutical or nutritional manufacturing experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
