As our customers continue to see the value of their initial investments in machine learning we are rapidly approaching an era of large-scale "Industrialization of AI" and Cloudera's fast-growing machine learning business is looking for Field Engineers to lead the way.

As an ML Field Engineer at Cloudera you will be responsible for helping our customers, partners and field teams to bring speed, scale and agility into their processes for identifying and implementing data products using machine learning.



  • With strong business and technical skills, you are the connecting tissue and build bridges between our product teams and customers; between the Cloudera ML business unit and our field teams; and between technical challenges and ML solutions.
  • Employing your strong communication skills and business acumen you will engage with Product Marketing and Product Management to create brand awareness through product messaging refinement/localization and content creation (blogs, best practices, templates, whitepapers, presentations, etc.). You will also work with peers to create and curate a library of story/persona-based product demonstrations and deliver them with presentations at industry and customer events.
  • You will leverage these assets along with relationship-building and interpersonal skills to help Cloudera build tribes of ML practitioners and experts who champion and advocate Cloudera's products and services in the community.


  • With solid experience in Big Data and data science practices you will guide customers in implementing ML use-cases with speed, scale and agility. You may be called upon to support POCs and pilots of Cloudera's machine learning products.
  • Through close collaboration with local field account teams you will engage proactively to help define strategy, identify opportunities and coordinate resources within our largest accounts. Additionally, you will train the teams on messaging, positioning and demos as well as the processes for identifying opportunities to position expert guidance services.
  • ML is a team sport. By working closely with our partners, you will enable them to tell our story, connect their products and solutions and deliver services.


  • As a field extension of our product management and development teams you play an important role communicating our vision and roadmap to customers and prospects while capturing feedback to help guide our product direction and next-generation platforms.
  • As the market moves to an age of industrialization many frameworks, tools and practices will start to consolidate around best practices and themes. You will work with our experts in Cloudera Fast Forward Labs as well as specialists and subject matter experts across the community to develop opinions on the best ways to aid ethical, enterprise-grade implementation at large-scale.

Skills and Qualifications -

The field of machine learning is VERY broad and the ideal candidate should have a mix of some of the following:

This position requires a deep technical background, with a particular focus on big data systems and machine learning techniques, tools and frameworks. Cloud or virtualization experience is a strong plus, as is working knowledge of Cloudera and Hortonworks products.
You deeply understand the needs and dynamics of a global enterprise sales team, and how to efficiently support them. You are additionally versed in modern digital marketing strategies and tactics.

You should be familiar with leading practices in the machine learning life-cycle, including data preparation for analysis, ML model selection, training and validation. We also expect that you have experience with preparing ML models for production deployment.

We value thoughtfulness, curiosity, creativity, and diverse perspectives. Most importantly, this position requires excellent written and verbal communication. We expect you to be able to present nuanced technical work to audiences that range from students to engineers to executives, with flair.

As a storyteller with both a business and technical background, you are comfortable communicating advanced concepts to diverse audiences. You will present our offerings to customers and at industry events and assist in creating and curating sales collateral and tools. Additionally you will help build and deliver a training curriculum to help Cloudera's field and partners share our machine learning vision, capabilities, and best practices with customers. You will directly support account teams on large opportunities and assisting with strategic opportunity planning.
