As a Linux System Engineer on the Monitoring team , you are a Linux expert that takes on the most intense aspects of solving monitoring problems in unique ways for our customers. We need you because your talent, hard work and dedication will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Monitoring at Rackspace. In this role you will do the standard tasks you already know:
Install, configure, update, troubleshoot, and scale common services using automation suites and version control software.
Keep abreast of current technologies and new versions of existing software solutions, be mindful of security implications at both an application and network level, understand how to manage disk I/O and memory usage, and how to evaluate and implement hot fixes or patches.
Work with cutting-edge technology in the networking and cloud computing space.
Collaborate with other high-performing Engineers and System Administrators on technical issues.

Advanced knowledge of Configuration Management, Backups, Caching, HTML, SSL Certificates, Storage, Web Scripting, and Packet analysis required.
Advanced knowledge of Packet Management, HTTP, FTP, High Availability, Hardware, Virtualization, Load Balancing, Networking, Patching, Performance Monitoring, RAID, Security, Web servers, Cluster management, SQL query writing/troubleshooting. Database Administration, Firewalls, DNS, and Systems Optimization and Designrequired.
Solid understanding of programming and scripting
Excellent problem solving skills with a desire to take on responsibility
Extensive knowledge of the Linux operating system
Extensive knowledge of MySQL database operations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate technical issues to nontechnical and technical audiences
Nice to Haves:
Advanced knowledge of Linux Kernel
Data Analysis and reporting skills
Basic working knowledge of clustering, SAN, NAS, and networking and troubleshooting skills for those systems
Technical certifications (i.e., Red Hat, UCP, CompTIA, MySQL, CCNA)
Virtualization and strong networking knowledge
Experience working in the cloud computing industry
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent work experience
