We are currently seeking a Linux Systems Administrator in Durham, NC to join our team.


Task and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Installation, upgrade, patching, maintenance, repair, etc. of Linux and UNIX servers. Primarily RedHat Linux servers, either physical of virtual with some need for Solaris UNIX server administration as well.

  • Hands-on equipment office at the nearby data center when necessary.

  • Work closely with other team members and other teams.

  • Assist in automating systems administrative tasks.

  • Keep systems patched and apply security remediation based on weekly security scans.

  • Evaluate and remediate systems for security vulnerabilities.

  • Provide Tier III help desk support related to Linux/Unix servers and applications.

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted users.

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning and resource optimization as required. 

  • Follow and maintain documentation on established procedures. Document new processes and standards.


To qualify, you must meet these basic qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's and 3 years of expertise or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree
  • Good understanding of Linux/Unix operations, installation and maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Proficient with the maintenance and creation of Bash scripts.

  • Be able to work a job to completion and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to research issues, test and document solutions.

  • Be available during some evenings and weekends to do work.

  • Experience with Red Hat Linux
