Overview & Responsibilities

Rackspace is seeking a Linux Operations Engineer to join our growing team in San Antonio, TX.

?In this role you will collaborate with System Engineers and have the opportunity to work alongside System Engineers who develop architectural frameworks for system development, maintenance, and enhancement efforts.? You will analyze systems and assist in performing usability testing to enhance scalability as well as meet security and compliance requirements.?

Responsibilities:

  • Provide fanatical customer service at all times

  • Provide configuration and troubleshooting support for systems maintained by Segment Support (e.g. Nimbus, Linux Patching, Sophos, SCOM, WSUS, Active Directory)

  • Troubleshoot on various Linux platforms (e.g. RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)

  • Work as part of a team and interact with our engineering, developer and support groups to identify and correct issues, increase efficiency and improve best practices.

  • Ensure all tickets and phone calls are handled within appropriate timeframes

  • Perform periodic on-call duties as part of a team

  • Create and contribute to team’s written documentation

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field required.

  • At themanager’s discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.

  • RHCE or equivalent certification or professional experience.

  • Yearsof experience typically required: 4-6 years.

Knowledge / Skills/ Ability

  • Prior experience in a customer service role

  • Advanced troubleshootingexperience with DNS, MySQL, Red Hat clustering

  • Advanced knowledge of RHEL Administration and Troubleshooting

  • Relevant technical certifications are a plus

  • Troubleshootingexperience with LDAP

  • Working knowledge of web hosting configuration components, including firewalls, load balancers, web and database servers

  • Clustering experience is a plus

  • Scriptingexperience is a plus

  • General knowledge of Windows Server 2008, 2012 and 2016 is a plus

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated analytical/problem solving ability

  • A firm understanding of PCI requirements and the auditing process

  • Time management, organizational skills, multitasking skills, ability to embrace change

  • Must be able to stand alone in a very technically advanced environment where you may experience and be responsible for solving challenging issues

  • Must be able to comprehend and have the desire to learn new technology while proactively bettering their knowledge to support emerging technology within a fast-growing company

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and rotating on-call for evenings, weekends and holidays
