Mid to senior-level Linux administrator to support our client based in Washington DC. Candidate will be responsible for monitoring production environment applications, middleware, and infrastructure, and to collaborate with team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. You will become an integral part of the team, assisting in resolution of critical issues in real time. This position offers outstanding self-driven learning potential, and expects a high level of commitment and inherent work ethic. The Linux Systems Administrator will work under the supervision of the Production Team Manager and with a team of equally dedicated team members. You will receive initial support and training to compliment the hands-on problem solving and technical skills (Unix/Linux/basic networking/client-server application concepts) you bring to the team, including the support of global, high-availability Red Hat Enterprise Linux clusters and systems. You will have the opportunity to be involved with all facets of support including hardware transitions, OS support, applications support, creation of automated procedures, and performance tuning. This position involves operations and maintenance and special projects.


-Monitor systems for anomalies and performance trends.

-Perform system changes such as code deployments and upgrades.

-Perform system maintenance such as problem resolution and performance tuning/improvement.

-Perform on-call duties including triage, communication of, and resolution of technical issues.

-Document problems and resolutions in internal and organizational documentation.

-Develop system automation tools to reduce redundancy and user error.

Skills Required

  • Candidate must be comfortable working on-call and some weekends.
  • 4-6 years of experience installing, administering, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7 systems
  • Experience with virtualized environments including VMware
  • 3-5 years of experience writing Shell scripts, Perl, or Python. Understanding of command line utilies such as grep, awk, sed, etc is complimentary to this experience.
  • Experience in the automation of routine system administration tasks, including system monitoring, review of system and application logs, and backup/verification/restore of system and application data.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as MFT/MFITS, Apache httpd, tomcat, nginx, etc.
  • Experience with configuration management tools, such as Puppet and Chef.
  • Experience with clusters for load balancing, redundancy, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of networking concepts such as IP, firewalls, and routing.
