The New York City Council, an equal opportunity employer, is seeking an attorney with experience in the field of criminal justice to serve as Counsel within the Legislative Divisions. Responsibilities will include drafting legislation, reviewing and analyzing legal and policy issues, preparing and organizing committee hearings, and drafting committee and oversight reports.




Applicants must possess superior writing, research, and analytical skills, strong communication and organizational abilities, and excellent academic credentials. The right candidate will be hard working, committed to public interest work, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects while working under tight deadlines, enthusiastic, client-oriented, and a team player. Familiarity with New York City Government is a plus.


Applicant should be admitted to the New York State Bar or have recently passed the Bar examination.


Applicant should have experience working as a prosecutor or defense attorney, or in fields related to criminal justice reform, policing, or corrections. Applicant must have working knowledge of New York State Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.
