Protective Life Corporation, based out of Birmingham, Alabama, is searching for an experienced and passionate Managing Editor of Training to oversee the quality and production of operational training content across 14 internal business units.
The Managing Editor reports to the Director of Operations Services Training and is a member of the Operations Services Management Team working to develop and engage Protective’s contact center and back-office teams. This person will help create content plans for new-hire training; develop ongoing design and training projects; create and help execute content flow plans; and build leadership skills throughout the Training development and design team.
The ideal candidate utilizes extensive development, design and analytical skills coupled with adult-learning theories and selects applicable modalities in order to deliver the impactful and successful material that meets if not exceeds the needs of our business units. This person is a leader with a strong voice in the training arena and will develop and lead editorial meetings, updates and presentations while championing accuracy and employee experience on all platforms.
Works with the Operations Services development and design team to coordinate daily development and design efforts
Develops and maintains style-guide and guardrails for all training material
Dotted line management of developers, designers and instructors, responsible for creating and maintaining standards applicable to each area to ensure consistent, accurate and effective training content and material is delivered
Assesses all development and delivery work, and establishes approval/rejection flows that drives on-time delivery and quality
Coordinates with Operations Manager to lead the development and design team efforts in daily work-load, original content development and special projects focused on content rich, interactive training experiences
Focuses on accuracy and balance in training development and design content through copy editing and training of staff
Helps ensure content is maximized to drive KPIs
Holds morning and afternoon development and design team check-in meetings to establish assignments and workflow
Lead training editorial meetings to make editorial decisions based on business partner feedback, known data and performance outcomes/metrics
Helps foster environment that champions original, quality-driven, modality-appropriate content production
Establishes, implements, and manages a process to objectively evaluate training effectiveness and presents recommendation for improvement
Works closely with the development and design team to make sure everyone understands all assignments and content being produced for all platforms
Works with the designers, developers, training partners, business leaders and team leadership to create on-going and pro-active roadmaps for development and design
Trains development and design team in best practices to create engaging content that is specific to audience and needs
Cultivates personal sources and relationships with experts
Minimum 5 years managing in a team environment
Demonstrated experience in a leadership position providing pinpointed feedback to direct and/or indirect reports
Skilled copy editor
Understanding of copyright law, music rights and ADA compliance
Experience with but not limited to Articulate 360, MS Office suite, proficiency with developing audiovisual/presentations, as well as designing content and activities for remote training, eLearning, virtual classrooms, speech driven analytics, Go-To-Training and Skype for Business.
Advanced understanding of curricula and instructional design processes; identifying learning events that need to take place to meet business objectives and experience in designing how that content should be delivered
Experience in developing cohesive, interactive training based on defined criteria or readily discernable learning objectives.
Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems, Virtual Learning environments, and live stream technology
Demonstrated experience in course/training evaluation
Demonstrated experience in diagnostic information gathering and interpreting data
BS/BA in related field - Education, Communications, English, Marketing
