The Traffic Director will be responsible for helping expand Michael Baker International's transportation planning, traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems opportunities, within the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. This energetic leader will be responsible for supporting project pursuits and delivery, business strategy, client development, staff development, and operational oversight. The successful candidate should also have experience with transportation planning, traffic studies/analysis, work zone traffic control, signing, pavement marking, traffic signal plans, intelligent transportation systems and other emerging transportation technologies. You will leverage your engineering knowledge and skills to lead/manage the preparation of engineering plans, reports, technical specifications, perform highway capacity analysis and prepare construction estimates and schedules. Serve as the traffic engineering manager and/or project manager for multiple projects; provide technical oversight

Provide operational and technical oversight of the traffic engineering and transportation planning staff

Produce strategies for growth and drive performance by pushing staff for results; lead change and innovation

Further develop business with existing clients and grow new client relationships

Monitor and implement strategies to fulfill business performance objectives

Meet with clients to identify upcoming opportunities and confirm the performance on contracts

Lead internal capture planning and strategy sessions and review technical and cost proposals

Support the preparation of technical proposals and conducting business development activities

Actively participate in industry leadership roles, be involved with community engagement, organize Michael Baker traffic participation at conferences and industry events

Communicate effectively with senior leadership

Articulate your vision and standards for professionalism, team work, quality, and technical excellence

Mentor personnel with technical and management competencies; inspire and enable others to succeed

Provide transparent, prompt, and constructive feedback to your personnel; be available and accessible

Identify training opportunities for your staff consistent with their career objectives

Interview and hire new staff to fulfill current project needs while planning the future of your business

Ensure QA/QC procedures are being implemented


Bachelor's Degree in related field; advanced degree is preferred

10-20 years of progressive transportation planning, traffic engineering design and operational experience

Pennsylvania Professional Engineer license preferred or ability to obtain one

A PTOE certification is highly desirable

Proven supervisory skills

Strategic thinker able to envision a growing traffic group

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to be diplomatic

Knowledge of local, regional, and potentially national traffic initiatives

Strong problem-solving skills

Ability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multi-tasking efforts is essential
