Full Job Description
About this role:

The team is seeking a Payments Focused Platform Engineer / SRE to join Payments & Liquidity Technology (GPLT), supporting the Initiation ecosystem for high-value payments. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, service management, and reliability. You will be embedded in the Payments lifecycle to ensure platforms are operable, resilient, observable, and supportable by design, not retrofitted after go-live. You will work closely with Application Engineering, Architecture and Service Operations teams to shape how payment applications are built, tested, released, and stabilized at scale.

This role embeds Site Reliability Engineering and production engineering practices into Payments Modernization initiatives from design through early life support, ensuring platforms are resilient, scalable, observable, and operationally ready. The engineer defines and validates nonfunctional requirements, leads capacity and performance testing for highvolume and peak payment events, and ensures robust replay, retry, and exceptionhandling for eventdriven flows. They own permittooperate readiness, cutover and early life support models, and ensure runbooks, oncall readiness, and escalation paths are productiongrade before golive. The role drives endtoend observability, SLOs and error budgets, reduces alert noise, and analyzes early defect patterns to stabilize services. Through chaos engineering, blameless RCAs, and continuous service improvement, this position strengthens recovery, reduces risk, and improves the reliability of critical payment platforms.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex, broadimpact initiatives, providing highlevel systems consultation and guidance to technology teams to support enterprise and operational objectives.

  • Serve as a key participant in largescale planning efforts for computer systems and network infrastructure within the Systems Operations functional area.

  • Review and analyze complex technical challenges and escalated support issues related to core business solutions, requiring indepth evaluation of multiple factors such as alternatives, enhancements, periodic system reviews, and improvements to existing platforms.

  • Make informed decisions on technical changes and system enhancements to ensure stability, scalability, and alignment with business and operational needs.

  • Consult with engineering teams on change design, applying a strong understanding of technical process controls, standards, and architectural considerations that influence and drive new initiatives.

  • Collaborate and consult with technical peers, colleagues, and mid to seniorlevel managers to resolve systems support issues, align solutions, and achieve shared delivery and operational goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 3+ years of application support experience

  • 3+ years of Platform experience in Kubernetes / container orchestration

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of CI/CD & Automation experience in Progressive delivery, automated rollback, reliability-as-code concepts

  • 2+ years of Application Frameworks experience in Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux, etc.

  • 2+ years of Data Stores & Caching experience with MongoDB, Redis

  • 2+ years of supporting webMethods applications

  • 2+ years of Resilience experience with Resilience4J, retry/replay patterns

  • 2+ years Observability: Distributed tracing, metrics, logging, SLO tooling

  • 2+ years Testing & Resilience Validation: BlazeMeter, Chaos Monkey

  • Strong experience in SRE, Production Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Service Transition within a complex technology or financial services environment

  • Demonstrated ability to productionize new platforms, not just support them

  • Solid understanding of high-value payment systems (Wires, RTP, SWIFT, CHIPS, FedNow) and their operational risk profile

  • Experience working with event-driven, distributed architectures

  • Comfortable operating in early-stage, ambiguous transformation environments

Job Expectations:

  • This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship

  • This position requires a hybrid in office work schedule

  • Ability to participate in a rotating oncall schedule, providing 12hour coverage across a 7day period approximately once every two months

Job Location:
