The Lead Systems Network Engineer provides design and technical support for the Network and Infrastructure project in Quantico, VA. This position is responsible for the deployment of the network and communications upgrade to include operations, configuration and maintenance of voice, video and data transport and associated servers, work stations, communications devices, routers, switches, voice systems, voice-over-IP, video bridges, information transfer nodes, as well as, communications closet wiring. The Network Lead System Engineer performs internal network management, ensures configuration and security accuracy, performs trends analysis, monitoring, fault notification, DNS/DHCP administration and installs, administers and provides technical support for and resolves outages for wireless network devices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Designs and configures servers and switches.
Provides performance management services such as trend analysis, predictive modeling and use of other diagnostic tools.
Provides real-time system operational statistics for proactive management of network services.
Monitors and responds to Fault Monitoring Management services.
Collects data by monitoring and analyzing network behavior and reports data as required.
Provides systems administration for assigned systems, servers, workstations, peripherals, communications devices and software to ensure they are on-line and operating properly.
Complies with established policies, directives and guidelines.
Performs all responsibilities delegated by the network operations center and network control center to optimize performance and quality of service. Reviews and maintains operational measurement reports and performs analysis of network utilization and active network monitoring.
Ensures servers, workstations, peripherals, communication devices, operating systems and application software are properly configured for network operation, are on-line and are available to customers.
Upgrades, integrates, installs, configures, tests, maintains and dismantles data and video communication Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) networks hardware and software.
Follows applicable environmental energy efficiency guidelines when purchasing new hardware or electronic equipment.
Provides network infrastructure support (technical control) including, but not limited to, point-to-point installs and maintenance, long-haul circuit management and operations, loading circuit encryption equipment, infrastructure network equipment and installation and repair and management of network infrastructure.
Operates, maintains and configures voice, data and video routers, hubs, switches, ITNs and bridges to interface with commercial, DoD and coalition networks.
Reviews, recommends and implements changes to Communications-Computer Systems Installations Records (CSIR), technical data, engineering drawings and equipment wiring diagrams.
Operates, monitors, secures and controls the physical data link, network and transport layers of Communications-Computer Systems (C-CS).
Assigns and maintains user IDs and passwords.
Implements installation and maintenance functions associated with edge device systems such as key and intercom systems, copper core and fiber-optic intra-building wiring, fiber-optic end equipment and associated hardware.
Implements software patches and security fixes as required by the network operations and security center or program management office. Tests and validates the proper operation and configuration using appropriate patches and fixes prior to restoring any device to the network.
Ensures physical security of Information Network components.
Monitors difficulty reports, heads-up messages and system advisory notices.
Provides network assistance and technical support to resolve user problems, service requests, communications, computer, voice, network faults and outages during system installation.
Creates and maintains a central repository for technical advice and solutions for network systems, software applications assistance, automatic data processing support, hardware exchange and repair service support.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Engineering and a minimum of ten (10) years’ of engineering experience. Familiar with DWDM, PON, Cisco technologies and architectures. Familiar with network and telecommunications architectures.
