Lead Software Engineering Specialist will be responsible for the development of a wide variety of Manufacturing Systems applications. In the Lead Software Engineering Specialist role, You will apply your experience and knowledge to the design, development, and implementation of software solutions to support and enhance Manufacturing Operations that enable factory transformation and make us a world class avionics manufacturer. Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, as the Lead Software Engineering Specialist, you will:

  • Execute the design, development and implementation of a variety of manufacturing systems solutions
  • Partner with Lean team to continuously eliminate waste, simplify and improve processes
  • Ensure projects align with business priorities, focusing on “digital with a purpose”
  • Interface with the broader digital community to leverage resources and identify solutions
  • Customize and improve data analytics for the Grand Rapids in such things as:
  • Planning and scheduling tools which:
      • Aggregate shop capacity
      • Labor and machine requirements
      • Comparing Standard Hours to Actual Hours for Product Costs
      • Comparing Standard Work In Process (WIP) Inventory Levels Compared to Standard WIP
      • Measuring work order lead time by products and comparing to standards
  • Automatic collection of data from production assembly and test equipment to eliminate paper on manufacturing floor
  • Materials tools which reinforce the linkage between Operations and Sourcing
  • Create technical system architecture drawings, information flow maps, database diagrams
  • Create user and system admin manuals for manufacturing systems
    • Conduct training for all users
  • Design and implement methods for high availability and database maintenance and backups
  • Acquire hardware, software and services required to support the system implementations
  • Create queries or Ad-Hoc reports to support data needs from safety, quality, operations and materials
  • Troubleshoot all system related issues
    • Identify root causes and implement bug fixes
  • Keep abreast of innovative technologies that pertain to manufacturing systems


  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, Engineering from an accredited university or college (Or High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience developing Software Application)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience developing software application and supporting business analytics {Including Experience with at least one Object Oriented programming language (Java, C#, C++, etc.); Experience building web / cloud based software applications}

Desired Characteristics: Familiarity with software & systems used by Operations such as, but not limited to:

  • Oracle (ERP)
  • TipQA
  • Kronos
  • Windchill
  • Proficy (MES),
  • Label Printing Software
  • Experience in Microsoft SQL Server
  • Data visualization and analytics skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Lean, Toyota Production System Knowledge and Six Sigma Trained
  • Lean, Theory of Constraints (Velocity Scheduling System) and Six Sigma Trained
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop and support sophisticated manufacturing systems
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective data platforms
  • Reports and information dashboards for:
    • Operational
    • Quality
    • Change control
    • and Compliance metrics
    • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated facilitation and technical leadership skills
    • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
