Parsons is working on several fronts with the NY MTA agencies to develop and test new CBTC technologies to more quickly modernize the NYCT signal system. Parsons is now hiring a Lead Rolling Stock Engineer - Advanced Train Control and Communications Systems for our rapidly expandingtransportation projects New York City. We are looking for engineers that are versatile, enthusiastic to work in highly flexible, team-oriented environment and who have exceptional communication, analytical and leadership skills. TechnicalResponsibilities: 

  • Serve as a design integrator/system integrator to effectively interface new CBTC equipment and technologies with existing and new rolling stock.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice to identify, test and integrate new technologies and design concepts.
  • Derive functional/performance requirements and documentation for communications based train control systems based on client needs and requirements
  • Develop test plans and analyses to support the evaluation of new technologies
  • Produce system and subsystem requirement specifications, interface specifications and test requirement documents by analyzing, decomposing, modeling and refining requirements and typical train control domain requirements
  • Evaluate or prepare operational plans and reports that relate to CBTC system and rolling stock operational and performance requirements
  • Assess plans and technical documentation to support a safe, reliable, maintainable, high quality, and sustainable ATC system
  • Present technical designs to clients and/or engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and non-ambiguous terms.
  • Prepare specialized CBTC analysis based on engineering skills and detailed knowledge:
  • Safe braking calculations
  • Logic and continuous controls design
  • EthernetLAN communications
  • Lead/chair client discussions by professionally and accurately communicating the system design information
  • Perform system design tradeoff analyses and provide technical recommendations
  • Review and comment on top level technical designs and documentation to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
  • Identify technical risks and mitigations
  • Analyze and evaluate ATC system and rolling stock performance and document findings via technical memoranda and white papers
  • Maintain high personal productivity while working interactively with other team members and client groups.

Candidate should be capable of interacting on a daily basis with multiple levels of clients and suppliers from senior management to direct labor as well as addressing the interface with contractors and consultants. Candidate should have clear understanding / or capability of appreciating User requirement context for public transit projects – including Operations, Maintenance, Training, Testing and Commissioning.   Qualifications

  • 4-yeardegree in Engineering (or related field)
  • 12+ years of related engineeringexperience
  • Professional registration in NY or NJ is preferred
  • Proven ability to perform in a supervisory/leadership role
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are required
  • Transit Systems Engineering Expertise:
  • Provide engineering expertise to support the planning, design, procurement and implementation of complex rail transit systems and rolling stock procurements.
  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of a broad range of rail systems elements, including Rolling Stock, Train Control System design including Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) and CBTC/Rolling Stock Integration. 
  • Candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work well with a large, complex and diverse team to deliver complex projects. Specific technical expertise in formal System Engineering principles is a plus. Demonstrated ability with integration and implementation of complex systems is required. Candidate should have a thorough familiarity with Communications Based Train Control Systems (CBTC) from key suppliers in the market such as Siemens, Thales and Alstom. Candidate should have thorough familiarity with modern rail transit rolling stock design, including key subsystems such as propulsion and braking, door controls, command and control systems and on-board networking.
  • Candidate must have the ability to analyze new technologies new system architectures against established performance criteria for functionality, reliability and safety. Candidate must have excellent teamwork skills to work well with a wide variety of stakeholders, including system operators, maintainers and system designers. Candidate must also demonstrate expert practitioner abilities to lead and conduct detailed reviews of complex analyses and processes. Candidate should be able to move between high level overview / objectives of tasks and be capable of focusing on details of functional area.
