Description

The Lead O&M Technician oversees day-to-day plant operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant performance. This role serves as the primary on-site leader in the absence of the Operations Manager, while driving team development, coordinating maintenance and operations, and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

St. Charles is a 745 MW, 2x1 combined cycle facility featuring GE 7FA.05 gas turbines and a D11 steam turbine, utilizing reclaimed water for cooling and supplying power to the PJM market via PEPCO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as LOTO Tagging Authority, ensuring proper isolation, documentation, and procedural compliance
  • Provide operational coverage and on-call support with the Operations Manager
  • Perform plant inspections, troubleshooting, and water chemistry analysis to optimize reliability
  • Lead, train, and mentor staff to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities to maximize availability and cost-effectiveness
  • Maintain accurate operational records and regulatory documentation
  • Support shift coverage and project execution as assigned
  • Coordinate plant output to meet contractual and operational requirements
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Oversee scheduling, workforce planning, and plant routines
  • Support training and qualification programs
  • Make critical decisions during normal and emergency operations
  • Serve as senior operational authority on shift when management is absent


Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of power plant or equivalent military experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in combined-cycle operations and maintenance, including balance-of-plant systems
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team development experience
  • Strong communication and technical comprehension skills (manuals, drawings, systems)
  • Experience with computer systems, CMMS, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work overtime, on-call schedules, and in physically demanding environments (lifting 40-75 lbs., PPE use)
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic plant environment
