Corporate Ethics and Compliance (“CEC”) delivers a compliance risk framework that enables the businesses and functions to comply with applicable internal and external rules and regulations and maintain risk levels within MetLife’s risk appetite. CEC provides constructive challenge to the businesses and functions, partnering closely with them to implement strong processes and effective controls, as well as to foster and embed a culture of compliance. CEC is part of Global Risk Management (GRM) and maintains a matrixed reporting line to Legal Affairs.
Reporting directly to MetLife’s Global Head of Anti-Financial Crime (AFC), the Lead Advisor, AFC Transformation will be an individual contributor responsible for leading and executing core transformation and remediation initiatives and other ongoing functions for the global AFC program. The global AFC program encompasses the compliance programs related to anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), anti-money laundering (AML), and economic and trade sanctions (sanctions). Designing an effective AFC compliance program through strategy, execution, and collaboration will be key in developing best practices in compliance coverage.
This role will support the Global Head of AFC in designing a global operating model and socializing the model with key stakeholders. The role will be responsible for partnering with Enterprise Compliance Program professionals to design a policy and program framework and assessing and updating existing global and local AFC-related policies, standards, processes and procedures. This role will also support establishing and operationalizing key operating procedures for global processes and employing data analytics and other tools for establishing key risk and key performance indicators for oversight and management of AFC risk. This role will partner closely with global, regional and local CEC teams to ensure consistent execution of transformation and remediation initiatives within MetLife’s business and operations. In addition, this role will work with Technology and Operations to evaluate current practices and build more scalable program capabilities, which will include overseeing the implementation and ongoing compliance management of risk-based technology solutions.

- Drive and take ownership of transformation initiatives to advance the effectiveness and sophistication of the AFC program.
- Facilitate scoping and priority-setting for change initiatives, including creation and management of project plans.
- Lead the review and development of risk-based financial crime compliance policies, procedures and best practices (including tool kits and user manuals) and provide strategic advice on the identification, collection, analysis and actionable insights into key financial crime compliance risk metrics.
- Partner with Operations, Technology and Internal Audit to develop and implement a data analytics framework and program that leverages current technologies and techniques for analyzing large data sets to identify gaps, risks and opportunities related to AFC program implementation.
- Partner with global, regional and local CEC teams in coordination, and performance of testing of financial crime compliance programs in local, regional and corporate function operations to ensure compliance with global policy requirements, including a review of local compliance policies. Track all action items requiring remediation to a close and prepare comprehensive reports on findings for senior leadership.
- Establish a framework and needed technology solutions for developing, identifying and collecting KRIs/KPIs for oversight, reporting and escalation of financial crimes risk.
- Strengthen financial crime compliance controls in business and corporate functions, including but not limited to: overseeing the management of self-identified issues and remediation plans associated with Audit issues.
- Partner with the Law Department, Government Affairs and CEC stakeholders on the establishment and maintenance of the law/regulation inventory as it relates to AML, ABC and Sanctions.
- Collaborate with Operational Risk Management and provide support to other internal partners with the ongoing development and performance of periodic non-financial risk assessments to determine the applicability of and actions needed to address financial crime risks identified for MetLife’s corporate functions, products and services globally.
- Own vendor relationship and contracts for globally owned AFC processes and technologies. Evaluate and conduct financial analysis for current vendor engagements to arrive at efficient future state structure; establish a process to consistently evaluate vendor and realize cost efficiencies.
- Identify, analyze and communicate regulatory requirements for financial crime compliance and take ownership of the review/update of policies, procedures, and controls to drive compliance with all applicable regulations and best practices. Coordinate with Legal Affairs and other / teams such as IT and Risk Management to ensure a holistic approach to these requirements.
- Collaborate with senior-level internal and external professionals and industry regulators on financial crime compliance related matters including regulatory examinations.
- Design, create and deliver timely and accurate reports to senior leadership on the current status of AFC remediation and transformation efforts.
- Mitigate risk by following established procedures, spotting key errors and demonstrating strong ethical behavior.
- Additional duties as they arise based on CEC priorities or regulatory developments in the financial crime compliance landscape.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience.
- 8+ years of relevant work experience in AML, Sanctions and/or ABC Compliance, including 5+ years with a medium to large size financial services firm.
- Experience in creating business relationships to help embed detection and prevention controls intended to mitigate financial crime risks.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to digest, summarize and present content quickly and clearly to senior leadership.
- Detailed oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and resolve issues; project management experience preferred.
- Work independently as well as collaboratively across Compliance and other business lines and enterprise functions.
- Be proactive and influential to deal with rapid changes, and capable of handling multiple and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to build rapport with key risk partners and interface with the business and corporate functions in order to facilitate the successful implementation of AFC programs globally.
