The Laboratory Manager is responsible for planning and managing the activities of a biological analysis laboratory.  The Laboratory Manager will coordinate with clients and staff to assure client deliverables are understood and met.  They will provide leadership for the technical division and technical guidance for the staff, including training and mentoring. They must ensure efficient use of section resources and staff by scheduling staff, planning for special events, and assuring supplies and equipment are available and functional.  The Laboratory Manager will work closely with the Section/Program Manager, Facilities, Quality Assurance staff, Safety and Security Officers to maintain a safe and secure work environment, and meet all MRIGlobal Quality goals.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Schedule staff according to project needs, both routine and unexpected, as well as monitor effectiveness of schedules
  • Prepare, review or oversee daily client reports
  • Attend client meetings
  • Identify potential problems in tasks and inform client, as appropriate
  • Assist in the management of the section’s finances
  • Participate in the selection of technical staff
  • Define staffing needs, and selection/assessment criteria
  • Maintain a high level of communication and responsibility to internal and external clients
  • Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards and corrective action
  • Prepare staff performance appraisals

  • BS or BA in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, MS preferred
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory environment, following standard operating procedures, preparing analytical reports
  • Five or more year’s relevant experience in directing/training and managing others
  • This will be a first shift position Monday-Friday (8am-5 pm), with occasional weekend and holiday work.  Will need to cover additional shifts as needed
