The Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Team delivers and supports all the foundational technology used across M&T Bank. Supports Two Data Centers, 1 Service Desk, 32,000 End User Computing devices, 14,000 Distributed platforms, 24 Mainframe Regions and process approximately 635,000 automated jobs per month. Overview:

Application Virtualization Engineer

M&T Bank is seeking an experienced and dynamic Application Virtualization Engineer to work with an agile team. The Application Virtualization Engineer is in charge of managing and maintaining the container infrastructure. An ideal candidate should have excellent technical credentials, experience in containers, networking, storage, compute, cloud infrastructure design and implementation, and excellent communication skills. The Application Virtualization Engineer will frequently collaborate with the Technology Infrastructure Services team to build robust platforms. As an Application Virtualization Engineer, you will be responsible for:

Primary Responsibilities:

• Contributing to identifying, developing and implementing technical best practices guidelines
• Working closely with customers, and leading technical and business value discussions
• Advising customers in the deployment of solutions that meets their technical, business and compliance needs
• Proactively identify trends, perform root cause analysis, problem isolation, and manage adverse events from identification to resolution
• Interface with customers, vendors, and other technical staff to analyze business and technical requirements relating to containers
• Participate in all phases of system development, configuration, architecture and monitoring including performance and availability, alerting, security and capacity planning.
• Enhance automated deployments using configuration management technologies and scripting languages.
• Lead efforts in infrastructure automation and continuous deployment utilizing a CI/CD pipeline in a private virtualized environment
• Engineer, document and maintain the container platform (OpenShift/Docker)
• Maintain software development disciplines including version control using Azure DevOps/GitHub
• Work across IT functions and collaborate effectively to deliver complete technical solutions
• Work closely with software developers to perform all levels of testing, as well as be an integral part of solving complex system level challenges
• Evaluate and understand complex interrelationships and effects among programs, interfacing applications and platforms. Provide highly analytical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies to assist business units in meeting strategic objectives.
• Proactively identify trends, perform root cause analysis, problem isolation, and manage adverse events from identification to resolution
• Identify, recommend and implement upgrades and enhancements required to maintain system functionality and optimal performance
• Interface with customers, vendors, and other technical staff to analyze business and technical requirements relating to cloud infrastructure
• Designing cloud migration strategies and implementing state-of-the-art cloud technologies for customers

Key Requirements:

• 7+ years' experience in working with customers in identifying their business and technical requirements, and designing and/or implementing optimal technical solutions for them
• Advanced knowledge and experience with container technologies using Docker/OpenShift and Kubernetes (design, build, configuration)
• Analyzing and troubleshooting container performance
• A deep understanding of container tools within the CI/CD pipeline (GitLab, Azure DevOps, JFrog, Aqua, Dynatrace, etc.)
• Establish continuous integration (CI) pipeline to fully automate deployment of containers
• Ability to write sustainable scripts using a language such as Python, Perl, Java, YAML or PowerShell
• Experience with automation and creating Ansible playbooks a must
• Understanding of operating systems, application security configurations, and best practices in Windows and Linux/UNIX environment is required
• Working experience with JIRA and ServiceNow
• Knowledge of Agile and iterative development methodologies
• Strong problem-solving skills to assist in issue resolution
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Experience recommending and implementing systems solutions
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously
• Ability to multitask for various components of complex projects

Additional Requirements:

• Proven track record of thought leadership in a consulting role
• Deep understanding of cloud technologies, such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software-defined networks (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), OpenStack, and other emerging technologies
• Knowledge of Red Hat Linux Operating Systems
• Experience building services on on-line infrastructure like AWS, Azure, GCP
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers
• Effective presentation skills

Basic Function:

This technical position will provide the foundation for sound technical decision making and control within the container infrastructure. The position duties will include the development of the architecture and support of the container environment. Primary responsibilities will include the mentoring and leadership of Container Integration (Operations) staff as well as providing a level of mentoring to development staff.

Education and Experience Required:

Combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management and/or architecture

Strong understanding of the system development and infrastructure lifecycle and architecture, vendor best practices, IT Service Management, and systems design

Education and Experience Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

Minimum of 8 years’ professional experience in a technical engineering position involving infrastructure design technologies, data management and interchange, system design and/or development for complex applications

Ability to translate complex business and functional requirements into structured high quality implementations using any variety of industry standard approaches
