Responsibilities

Knicks Digital Content Editor

The Digital Content Editor of the New York Knicks is responsible for providing day-to-day editorial coverage of the Knicks team and storylines endemic to basketball in New York City. This position will be responsible for daily written content surrounding the team and our prospects, contributing across all social/digital platforms.  The content will be in support of the team’s editorial calendar and will provide rich and insightful storytelling around the team/organization to drive fan engagement. Additionally, this role will help contribute to a variety of writing assignments in support of the digital/marketing teams as needed. 

This role supports both game/basketball coverage as well as richer narratives that help fans discover our team and players in new and interesting ways.

This role is versed in the Xs and Os of basketball, serving to ensure compelling in game coverage for our fans and flawless execution for our partners.

Throughout the year, the Digital Content Manager will contribute to the creation and maintenance of NYK original content and digital strategy across all NYK channels, including the team website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and other platforms.

Digital Storytelling

The digital content editor will partner with the digital content lead and creative department to identify player and team narratives and ideate ways to bring them to life through digital storytelling and editorial coverage. For example, this role would identify ways in which Knicks practice serves to showcase Lance’s mentorship role, develop a plan for capturing the content and how it rolls out on screen.

Work closely with internal departments on content development and storytelling to support Marketing, PR, Community Relations, Junior Platform and Fan Development.

Travel to select milestone games throughout the season, special events (NBA All-Star) & Playoffs to provide unique perspectives for Knicks digital/social audience  

Ensure all content and social media efforts are in line with brand, voice, and company objectives, as well as optimized for fan engagement.

In Season: In Game and Team Editorial

In season, this position will be building content surrounding the team’s schedule. Content on practice days, game days, off-days, off-court activities, marketing/community/fan development initiatives and relevant news surrounding the team will be crafted by this position both in article form (short/long) and across social media. 

Authors run of show for every game inclusive of identifying major narratives and how these come to life across pre, in-game and post game coverage across the 3 social channels. Executes run of show, creating and publishing content in real time and working with Coordinators to support coverage.

Basketball coverage across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram – identifying the most compelling plays and storylines to promote across social channels and ensuring all content is authored in the brand tone of voice.

Partnership Execution  

Leads execution of Xs and Os Partnerships content including pre and post game editorial.

Identifies ways to refresh traditional approaches to partner content and deliver it across more platform, in more snackable ways to drive more engagement and traffic to Knicks.com

Supports concepting, execution and posting of partner content with partner needs spanning across pre-game, in-game, post game, off the court storytelling and community efforts.

Fulfills on partner storytelling around Draft and Training Camp, serving to develop roadmaps, storylines and creative approaches (in partnership with the creative team) for covering, driving anticipation of and engagement around Lottery, Draft and Training Camp. Responsible for overseeing execution of all content and publishing it.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years’ experience in interactive/digital marketing strategy across the sports industry
  • Strong passion for and knowledge of sports, live entertainment, technology, emerging media and the Internet; specific interactive production experiencerequired
  • Experience and comfortability working directly with Athletes.
  • Experience working on major productions
  • Ability to articulate and lead in a fast-paced, intense and highly-matrixed environment
  • Excellent project management, strategic thinking and communication skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work independently
  • Creative skills with the ability to conceptualize and oversee creative and product development
  • Ability to articulate and execute against strategic vision
  • Digital production and project management skills and publishing tools (CQ5 Content Management System, Adobe Marketing Cloud/Omniture Analytics, HTML and CSS)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • In-depth knowledge of emerging media
  • Exceptional team player with the confidence and integrity to earninternal and external team confidence quickly
  • Ability to thrive in a fluid and entrepreneurial environment
  • Regional travel to be expected
  • BA/BS required

Education

Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
