Junior Systems Engineer
This position provides systems engineering support to the International Space Station (ISS) Operations within the NASA JSC Flight Operations Directorate. Individuals perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for Mission Systems. Analyses are performed at all levels for system products (hardware or software) to include: concept, design, development, test, installation, operation, maintenance and decommission. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints while maintaining quality and controlling risk. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Individuals in this position coordinate planning, organization, control, integration and completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility (Hardware, Operating Systems Engineering, Security Engineering, Systems Engineering, Configuration Management, Project Engineering, and Integration & Test). Create product designs that are compliant with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements, and related specifications. Evaluates design changes and makes recommendations. Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written are required.
Background in any engineering or development area. Highly motivated individual willing to learn. Understanding of the existing platforms, systems, subsystems, and applications (especially for Training Systems/Mission Control Center/User Applications/Space Vehicle Mockup Facility) is considered a plus but not required. Candidate must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative. Candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment.
This is a junior level position. Preferred candidates will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, Math or a related area and 0-4 years of position related experience. This position also requires successful completion of a government background check before commencement of employment.
