Manager - Systems Engineer – Ecommerce Operations


Overview: Urban Outfitters is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to manage the growing ECommerce Operations Team.  This position will participate in responsibilities related to all aspects of ECommerce related operations including deployments, maintenance, and troubleshooting.  The right candidate has had a minimum of 8+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer and is looking to take the next step in their career.



Support business requirements as needed within the ECommerce Operations team.

Manage team of 4-5 Administrators

Willingness to manage on-call rotations and respond to issues off-hours as required.

Be a productive and helpful manager and maintain a positive attitude in stressful and high-pressure situations.

Identify areas of improvement across the entire environment and willingness to develop creative solutions.

Experience with design and maintenance of diverse solutions geared towards, rapid deployment, automation, virtualization, monitoring and troubleshooting.  

Develop and implement custom monitoring solutions using established tool sets.  Identify new tools as needed. 

Willingness to troubleshoot and solve issues across environments including but not limited to web, application, and database related services.



8+ years as a Linux/Unix Systems Administrator.

Experience in managing operations for 24x7x365 web applications.

Demonstrated ability to run/support monitoring tools such as Zabbix, Nagios, NewRelic, and Splunk

Excellent command line skills, prefers the command line.

Familiarity with one or more of the following scripting languages: Python, Perl, Ruby, bash/shell scripting.

Experience supporting enterprise web applications (Apache, nginx, jBoss/Tomcat).

Excellent oral and written communication skills.



Experience with server automation tools to manage environments such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Fabric, Jenkins, etc.

Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as Xen or KVM

Knowledge of relational (Oracle, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB).
