Job Description

The IT Security Operations Specialist manages access controls including the periodic assessment and continual improvement of security operations. Incumbents will possess strong technical skills to manage daily security operations activities such as incident identification, root cause analysis, progress tracking, and resolution reporting. They survey security operations and recommend operational efficiencies resulting in cost savings or increased productivity.

Experience and Skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (special consideration given to relevant industry certifications)
  • 4+ years related experience required
  • Background in networking or security to include intrusion detection/prevention
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and organization skills
  • Knowledge and experience with endpoints, network topologies, network devices, and servers
  • Knowledge of security applications such as next-gen AV, SIEM, FIM, vulnerability scanners, and protocol analyzers
  • Knowledge of ITIL and security frameworks (e.g., NIST, COBIT)
  • Strong interpersonal and user service skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft operating systems
  • Experience with process functional areas such as trouble management, fault management, and incident management

Duties:

  • Administer the provisioning, de-provisioning, and review of access controls on systems to ensure the principle of least privilege, separation of duties and need to know is being followed in adherence to company policies
  • Handling events such as identifying security issues, extensive troubleshooting, and coordinating resolution with various IT groups
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software failures as well as security breaches, threats, and availability issues
  • Regularly provide proactive support including: security configurations, security policy modification recommendation, and diagnostics of remote network security issues
  • Professionally and courteously answer inbound security-related calls and provide customers with the best service, generate tickets for all requests, and handle security-related issues
  • Ensure implementation of best practice security policies that address business needs while protecting corporate assets
  • Provide overflow support for service desk during rare occasions of high call volumes
  • Individual must be able to perform with minimal supervision of routine duties; must demonstrate ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats; and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
